John Leech Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
I will listen to what the Lord God is saying, for he is speaking peace to his faithful people and to those who turn their hearts to him.
Truly, his salvation is very near to those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
The Lord will indeed grant prosperity, and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness shall go before him, and peace shall be a pathway for his feet.

S cenes of family harmony and cozy firesides in many of Dickens' stories seem in stark contrast to his own family life. Growing up, the family situation was often precarious due to his father's trouble with debt, which landed him in debtors' prison in 1824 when Charles was 12.
Later Dickens' own family was marked by strife as his relationship with his wife deteriorated and his sons seemed to have inherited their paternal grandfather's trouble handling finances. Dickens once lamented that he had "brought up the largest family with the smallest disposition for doing anything for themselves". Dickens' extended family's constant drain on his finances, along with his built-in anxiety about money caused by his childhood, resulted in Dickens never feeling comfortable enough about his financial situation.
Dickens' circle of friends consisted of people prominent in the arts, journalism, publishing, politics and public life. A loyal friend who demanded loyalty in return, lines were drawn during Dickens' very public separation from Catherine. Those not sympathetic to Dickens' side soon felt his wrath, in some cases, forever.

William John Leech (1881-1968) was reclusive in his lifetime, but his attractive landscapes, portraits and still-lifes, in oil and watercolour, have long been collected. This catalogue, of the 1996 exhibition by Denise Ferran, is the fruit of many years research and brings together over a hundred works. Leech was initially attracted by the tonal painting of Whistler, but, in Brittany, developed a vibrant post-modernist palette and distinctive brushwork which sustained him for a long career.

Content Leech
Friday April 1, 2005 [last update Friday April the 1st 2005] My quest to run a blog without actually writing any content continues, and yes, I know no shame. I have managed to recruit a few more suckers willing participants to answer seven and a half questions , the obvious next step is to get on with it and start nicking people's content wholesale. A little while back I did an experiment pulling feeds from the Brit Pack onto a page here, something Phil Baines has been doing well for a long while, but the plug-in didn't cache the feeds and it was not doing things quite how I wanted. Anyway, blah de blah de blah, another plug-in (compliments of Tom MacWright ) showed up for Textpattern and I gave it a whirl, it looks very sexy indeed. It seems to cache the feed, if it hasn't been updated, and does so nicely in a temp folder held on my server. Plus, it uses Textpattern forms to present the content of the feed, very, very cool.
Guest slots
Old school regulars will already know that I have always liked the idea of guest slots but, for a variety of reasons, it's never really worked out. With this new plug-in it could, finally, be really easy to do and

M ovieMaker Magazin e Results: WriteMovies.com International Writing Competition We received 1000 screenplays, books, plays, short stories and articles from the following countries: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Belgium, India, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Italy, Greece, Nigeria, Georgia, Mexico, Japan, South Africa and The Cameroon. The overall standard was very high, hence the large number of writers we found to be eligible for the final rounds. If you do not find your name on this list, it does not mean that you are a "bad" writer. We sincerely believe that anyone who sacrifices, nights, weekends and often a lot more, to the dream of becoming a writer, is deserving of respect. We decided against many competent works for a variety of reasons. Some were not suited for the cinematic medium. Others were conceptually flawed, in that they either delivered last year's movie or an idea that was just not feasible. There is nothing sadder than a brilliantly executed "bad idea", (well, unless it's a badly executed good idea). But in all honesty, the shelves of most Hollywood pros are lined with these. We hope that those who did not make will stay in touch with us. We have enjoyed our myriad of email exchanges and are working hard at making this site more relevant to your careers. Don't forget that many of our writers got their careers going by using our consulting service:
