Z Wikipedii, wolnej encyklopedii. Leopold Kronecker (ur. 7 grudnia r. - zm. 29 grudnia r.) - niemiecki matematyk i logik Od roku członek Akademii Nauk w Berlinie i profesor uniwersytetu berlińskiego . Zajmował się algebrą teorią liczb i teorią funkcji . Propagował arytmetyzację matematyki , kt³rą chciał sprowadzić do arytmetyki liczb całkowitych . Występował przeciwko teoriom Weierstrassa i Cantora
Notka biograficzna
Pochodził z legnickiej rodziny żydowskiej. Jego rodzice zapewnili mu staranne wykształcenie. W gimnazjum Eduard Kummer odkrył jego talent matematyczny i udzielał mu prywatnych lekcji znacznie wychodzących poza program nauczania. W 1841 roku Kronecker podjął studia na Uniwersytecie w Berlinie w zakresie matematyki, chemii, astronomii i meteorologii. Szczeg³lnie jednak cenił i lubił astronomię i filozofię. W 1843 roku podjął pracę u boku swojego profesora Kummera na Uniwersytecie we Wrocławiu, gdzie zajmował się teorią liczb. Następnie wr³cił do Legnicy, by zająć się prowadzeniem rodzinnych interes³w. Szybko jednak firma, kt³rą przejął po rodzinie matki, przyniosła takie dochody, kt³re pozwoliły mu przenieść się z rodziną do Berlina i tam ponownie oddać się pracy naukowej. Został rekomendowany przez Eduarda Kummera do Berlińskiej Akademii Nauk.

    Encyclopedia: Axiomatic set theory
Updated 13 days 10 hours 31 minutes ago. Other descriptions of Axiomatic set theory Set theory is a branch of mathematics created principally by the German mathematician Georg Cantor at the end of the 19th century . Initially controversial, set theory has come to play the role of a foundational theory in modern mathematics, in the sense of a theory invoked to justify assumptions made in mathematics concerning the existence of mathematical objects (such as numbers or functions) and their properties. Formal versions of set theory also have a foundational role to play as specifying a theoretical ideal of mathematical rigor in proofs. At the same time the basic concepts of set theory are used throughout mathematics, the subject is pursued in its own right as a specialty by a comparatively small group of mathematicians and

Leopold Kronecker 's parents were well off, his father, Isidor Kronecker, being a successful business man while his mother was Johanna Prausnitzer who also came from a wealthy family. The families were Jewish, the religion that Kronecker kept until a year before his death when he became a convert to Christianity. Kronecker's parents employed private tutors to teach him up to the stage when he entered the Gymnasium at Liegnitz, and this tutoring gave him a very sound foundation to his education. Kronecker was taught mathematics at Liegnitz Gymnasium by Kummer , and it was due to Kummer that Kronecker became interested in mathematics. Kummer immediately recognised Kronecker's talent for mathematics and he took him well beyond what would be expected at school, encouraging him to undertake research. Despite his Jewish upbringing, Kronecker was given Evangelical religious instruction at the Gymnasium which certainly shows that his parents were openminded on religious matters. Kronecker became a student at Berlin University in 1841 and there he studied under Dirichlet and Steiner . He did not restrict himself to studying mathematics, however, for he studied other topics such as astronomy, meteorology and chemistry. He was especially interested in philosophy studying the philosophical works of

    Kronecker, Leopold (1823-1891)

German mathematician and logician who vociferously opposed the work of Georg Cantor . He insisted that arithmetic and analysis should be based on whole numbers and is credited with saying, "God made the natural numbers; all else is the work of man" (Bell 1986, p. 477). He was a student and lifelong friend of Kummer . His dissertation was on number theory and dealt with units in certain algebraic number fields After obtaining his degree, however, Kronecker managed the estate and ran the business of his uncle following his death. For eight years, Kronecker produced no mathematical work. Then, in his 1853 memoir on the algebraic solvability of equations, he extended Galois's work on the theory of equations. He studied continuity and irrational numbers and vigorously opposed continuous nondifferentiable function. In On the Solution of the General Equation of the Fifth Degree (1858), he obtained a solution to the quintic equation similar to Hermite's using group theory Galois Hermite Weierstrass

    Kronecker, Leopold (1823-1891)
A German mathematician and pioneer in the field of algebraic numbers who formulated the relationship between the theory of numbers, the theory of equations, and elliptic functions . He acquired a passion for number theory from Ernst Kummer, his instructor at the Liegnitz Gymnasium. Kronecker, who made a fortune in business before returning to his academic studies, claimed that mathematical argumentation should be based only on integers and finite procedures. He was one of Georg Cantor 's sternest critics and refused to accept the validity of the Weierstrass function.

Kronecker, Leopold German mathematician who devised the Kronecker delta in linear algebra. He attempted to unify analysis, algebra, and elliptical functions.
Kronecker was born at Liegnitz (now Legnica, Poland), and studied at Berlin, Bonn, and Breslau. Financially independent, he devoted himself to research and lectured at Berlin from 1861. In 1883 he became professor there.
Kronecker was obsessed with the idea that all branches of mathematics (apart from geometry and mechanics) should be treated as parts of arithmetic. He also believed that whole numbers were sufficient for the study of mathematics - 'The whole numbers has the Dear God made; all else is man's work'.
Kronecker published a system of axioms 1870, later shown to govern finite Abelian groups.
The Kronecker delta is denoted by rs, for which rs = when r s and rs = 1 when r = s, where r, s are 1, 2, 3, ... He found this a useful device in the evaluation of determinants, the r and s being concerned with a row and a column of the determinant.
