Shriek (!) By Anonymous on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 07:32 pm Can anyone tell me the origin or purpose of using shriek to mean factorial? By on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 02:42 pm Dr. Hallard Croft (our analysis lecturer) called it "splash" today...
To be honest I've never heard it called "shriek", or "ping" or any of these other pronunciations it is reputed to have. By James Lingard (Jchl2) on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 02:46 pm I've never head it called 'splash' before!
I've heard people call it 'bang' or 'shriek', but personally I'm not quite sure what's wrong with 'factorial'. By Sean Hartnoll (Sah40) on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 02:56 pm I've never heard it called anything other than 'factorial'... And similarly when ! is included after a there exists symbol (backwards E) to mean unique, it is pronounced "there exists a unique" not "bang, there exists..."

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND SOURCES. I seldom thought about Faa di Bruno's formula after [36] was published until I saw a preliminary version of [68], which rekindled my interest. I thank Winston Yang for writing it, and George Andrews for sending it to me. I should perhaps say something further about references. I might never have begun this project had I not come across [45] and the reference there to T. A.'s work; thus I owe much to [13] and the outstanding bibliography therein. Marchand seems to have read nearly everything ever published on this subject in France, but not much else. Unfortunately he failed to spot Faa di Bruno's formula in [41]. He also missed [17] and [48], which were both written in French but published elsewhere.

Most college students are at least open to spiritual discussions, so with the right attitude and perspective, churches and individuals sharing the gospel with college students can be highly effective.
June 23, 2003 If you and/or church is considering evangelism ministry with college students, here are some things to consider as well as some resources that might help in the process. College students desperately need to know what they believe and why thy believe it. Because the college campus is a questioning/learning place, Christian students who are seeking to share their faith will be questioned about their beliefs. Churches and ministries must equip those who go out to share the gospel to know their faith stories, to know why they are placing their trust in Christ, and to explain what the Bible says about God and our relationship to Him. . Evangelism needs to be community-based. For the millennial generation, community matters most. They date in groups. Their identity is found in the groups to which they belong. As such, it is no surprise that many of those who come to know Christ in college do so by first becoming a part of a Christian community. As they do, they are able to observe if Christians are authentic and they examine whether or not they want to give their life to Christ. Churches and other ministries can have an evangelistic impact on this group by simply providing ways for them to spend time with others, developing friendships and a sense of community. The South Carolina Baptist Convention also sponsors Baptist Collegiate Ministry groups on college campuses, which provide Christian community and outreach to non-Christian students.

El Dorado County Tales
William Kramp finally found success ... in El Dorado County
Written by Joanne Burkett from research taken from Paolo Sioli's History of El Dorado County California , from El Dorado Co. birth, marriage, death and land records and often from interviews. Christian and Anna Marie Kramp were farmers near Linter, a small village in the Province of Nassau, when their son William Antone was born in 1829, followed by the birth of Phillip on July 2, 1834. Nasssau, once a part of Napoleon's Confederation of the Rhine, had been a part of the German Confederation since 1815.
While the boys worked alongside their parents on the family farm, they managed to complete the country's mandatory eight years of schooling. At the age of 14, upon the completion of theirs education, the brothers applied themselves full-time to the farm's never-ending chores . However, on Oct. 17, 1852, the Kramp family left Nassau, bound for a new life in America.
Sixteen months after their arrival in Hermon, Mo., William, who was now 25 years old and filled with youthful ambition, left his family behind and took employment as a cook on a wagon train bound for California. The pioneering party consisted of 26 men and three women.
On April 26, 1854, the company reached the Missouri River near the original site of Joseph Robidoux's Blacksnake Hills trading post, a small settlement that had experienced tremendous growth since it's establishment in 1826. Because of its location, it had become the main crossing point for gold rush travelers. The City of St. Joseph had been established at the site just months before William passed through.

Djurdjijana Bura
2004-2005 Recipient Most Americans have seen war on television; Djurdjijana Bura has lived it. The Richland College student, who was forced from her home in Croatia and who resettled with her family in Serbia and then the United States, left behind her grandmother - crying as her children and grandchildren departed - and a brother who was killed fighting in a bloody civil war. In spite of several relocations, immigration and language barriers, Djurdjijana's determination to obtain an education and to make life better and safer for others is obvious to her American teachers and friends. Her English is improving, and Djurdjijana took a full load of academically challenging classes, including AP courses. She graduated from Lake Highlands High School this May. Djurdjijana wants eventually to study electrical engineering or medicine. "I'm grateful that I'm here in America, where maybe not everything is wonderful, but at least it's the best home I've ever had…without thinking about my safety constantly," said Djurdjijana. She believes that the U.S. gives people the chance to dream and to work toward those dreams. "I like this system because this system believes in us," she said.

Two DCCCD Students Face Adversity, Earn Scholarships
(Dallas) - Mary Sefzik hasn't lost sight of her goal to attend college and combine a career in music with Christian radio, even though she hasn't been able to see since the age of six weeks. As the product of a dysfunctional home, Raul Magdaleno - who also immigrated to the U.S. at an early age has rechanneled years of negative experiences into more than 30,000 hours of volunteer service in his community...part of his efforts to building a future through education and hard work. Both students have faced tough challenges, and both have recognized that their dreams can become reality only with perseverance and an education. The Dallas County Community College District and the Erin Tierney Kramp Encouragement Foundation will honor Sefzik and Magdaleno on Thurs., June 26, during a special ceremony as they receive the 2003 Erin Tierney Kramp Encouragement Scholarship Award. The 6 p.m. award ceremony will be hosted by a member of the Erin Tierney Kramp Encouragement Foundation board of directors. Robert L. Thornton III, chairman of the DCCCD Foundation board of directors, will attend. The scholarship will help both students continue to reach for their dreams with the financial support provided by the Erin Tierney Kramp Encouragement scholarship awards. Each student will receive a $700-per-semester scholarship (up to a maximum of $2,800). Sefzik, who attends Eastfield College, wants to major in music and communications; Magdaleno, who is enrolled at Mountain View College, is preparing for studies in corporate communications and public affairs.
