Abraham Gotthelf Kästner (1719-1800) In Kästners riesenhaftem Gesamtwerk, das aus literarischen und wissenschaftlichen Schriften besteht, machen Rezensionen einen großen Teil aus. Die in den Kritiken behandelten Themen decken den gesamten gelehrten Bereich ab, zu dem der Verfasser auch sonst publiziert: Schöne Literatur, Fachwissenschaften, aber auch juristische Schriften. Kritiken sind für ihn wichtige Beiträge zum Gedankenaustausch in der Gelehrtenrepublik, sie gehorchen deren ständischen Organisationsformen und zielen noch nicht auf einen literarischen Markt. Bei kaum einem Kritiker aus der Epoche der Aufklärung wird die Verbindung zwischen Rezensionen und Satire so deutlich wie bei Kästner. In den ersten Jahren sind seine Kritiken – oft in der Textsorte des offenen Briefes abgefaßt – Teil seines satirischen Schaffens. Obwohl scharf im Urteil und mitunter beleidigend in der Formulierung, fehlt es diesen Kritiken im Vergleich zu Lessing oder anderen späteren Meistern der Feder aber an treffsicherer Kürze: "Der Herr Verfasser hat sehr wohl eingesehen, daß [ ] Leidenschaften der Gesundheit schädlich sind, und er hat die Zuseher daher lieber in einer beständigen Gleichgültigkeit erhalten wollen. Daß er aber geschickt gewesen wäre, alle diese Affecten zu erregen, wenn es ihm beliebt hätte, sieht man daraus, weil er einen davon, vielleicht unwissend, doch sehr wohl erregt hat. Man hält es für eine besondere Schönheit eines Stücks, wenn der Zuschauer oder Leser in einer beständigen Ungeduld erhalten wird, das Ende davon zu sehen." (Begebenheiten des Telemachs. Lehrgedichte - Literatur vermittelt Wissen Das sogenannte dogmatische Gedicht stellt in unserer Zeit das Zentrum der didaktischen Dichtung dar. Da in Vers gefasste Werke höher geschätzt werden als Prosatexte, ist es für viele Autoren Ehrensache, ihren Beitrag zur Lehrdichtung in Form eines Lehrgedichts zu leisten . Allerdings sind die Anforderungen an ein solches Gedicht hoch. Opitz’ Werk Buch von der Deutschen Poeterey“ , das 1624 veröffentlicht wurde, ist eine Poetik, die auch in unserer Zeit noch vielen richtungsweisend erscheint. Opitz formuliert in ihr Regeln und Grundsätze einer zu seiner Zeit neu zu begründenden hochdeutschen Dichtkunst. Diese solle sich nicht nach den überlieferten antiken Versmaßen richten, sondern eine eigene, der deutschen Sprache angemessene metrische Form finden Die dichterische Freiheit und lyrische Stimmungen treten in den Lehrgedichten in den Hintergrund. Der abstrakte Ton und die akademische Grundhaltung kennzeichnen die Gedichte. Obwohl sie gänzlich auf Erzählungen verzichten, veranschaulichen sie ihren Inhalt und machen die Vermittlung von Wissen angenehmer, als es Sachtexte tun. Naturbeschreibungen lassen sich den ersten Lehrgedichten zuordnen.

Only here, the assassination in Professor Wolff's opus is perpetrated at the onset. To his credit, Christoph Wolff, perhaps the pre-eminent Bach scholar of the academic world today, has kept his lifelong passion for Bach alive even into his years as Dean at Harvard University. His revision and expansion of the letters and documents of Bach's life ( The New Bach Reader , originally compiled and edited by Hans David and Arthur Mendel) was published in 1998, and is invaluable for English-reading students of Bach's life. Wolff's lifelong pursuit of the missing music library of the famous Berlin Singakadamie, a passion from his graduate school days, was rewarded with success just recently. Further, he is no deconstructionist or relativist. He even attempts to situate Bach as a thinker, a musical scientist. However, in attempting to address the genius of Bach, he displays a remarkable gaffe, characteristic of the pathetic, ideological blinders of even the best of modern academia.
