    Betsey Johnson Samsung E315

When Samsung told CNETAsia it would be rolling out more phones for women, we thought this meant more kitsch like the Pink Calendar, mirror and health features. Seems the Korean chaebol has been busy rounding up a team of women known for their fashion pizzazz. The latest, the inimitable Betsey Johnson appears to have had Paris Hilton as her muse, with the Samsung E315 pretty in pink and only missing some bling blings. For the more affected, do check out Diane von Furstenberg's artsy VM-A680. Our money, though, is on the oh-so-Edna Mode Anna Sui whose excessive purple-and-black creation packs a mobile charm and Sui Rouge #371 lipstick with Anna Sui signature case. Nothing, daarling, beats a freebie to win the Singaporean's heart.

    Biography:
Corsica and other poems were increasingly circulated in manuscript form, mostly among teachers and students at Warrington Academy. Anna's younger brother, John Aikin, strongly encouraged her to write and to publish. Her first published pieces were six poems in his book Essays on Song-Writing , 1771. In 1772, William Enfield included five of her hymns in his collection Hymns for Public Worship . In 1773, Miss Aikin published a major collection of her own Poems , which was very successful. The Poems are often quite personal, and show a number of sides to her character. Several reveal her affection for friends and family (cf. The Invitiation to Miss B. and On the Death of Mrs. Jennings ); others display her religious (cf. Hymns ) and political convictions ( Corsica Poems also includes an important statement about what it meant to her to be a woman and a poet, in her tribute to Elizabeth Singer Rowe (1674-1737). In Verses on Mrs. Rowe , Aikin seeks a model for both life and poetry. To Mr. Barbauld, November 14, 1778

"A Memoir of Ethna Carbery" by Seumus MacManus (1869-1960).
From: The Four Winds of Eirinn: Poems by Ethna Carbery. (Anna MacManus.)
    ETHNA CARBERY
I HAVE wanted, and long waited, to write a biography of Ethna Carbery. But I have not yet got the personal detachment necessary for the right doing of such a work. I. Ethna Carbery's most conspicuous qualities were her lovingness, her lovableness, and her intense patriotism. A poor old woman from a back street in Donegal town said to me, "Ach! sure it was the oddest thing under the sun, how many of us who never had the luck to split lips to her, loved her after only seeing her walk the street!" The adjective exquisite here used to describe her womanliness, exactly defines it. Though, in a country of poets she was remarkable as a poet, yet, in a country of womanly women she was still more remarkable as a woman. My Dearest "I think if angels took her hand
And led her where God's pastures are,
And knelt her at His feet, He swift
Would frame her in a splendid star,
And place her in a sea of light
To cheer and gladden all the night.

University welcomes inaugural class of presidential scholarship recipients
The inaugural class of the University's presidential scholars began classes on Monday. These Illinois students are among the best enrolling here. Besides academic excellence, they are demonstrated leaders, a quality that President James E. Walker believes builds better students. This class of scholars had an average class rank of 99.5 percent and a 31.4 on the ACT (American College Test), which places them among the top 2 percent of their peers nationally. Minimum eligibility requirements for the presidential scholars are an ACT composite score of 29, a 3.75 grade-point average on a 4.0 (perfect) scale, leadership qualities and Illinois residency. SIU is awarding 30 presidential scholarships annually. Nineteen go to students who attend SIUC. The other 11 scholarships go to students who attend SIU Edwardsville. Each scholarship is worth is $20,000 ($5,000 for four years). Walker announced the creation of the Presidential Scholars Programs last September as part of his Shared Vision for SIU.
