To Netnews Homepage Previous Next Index ... Table of Contents From Intellect to Intuition - Chapter Four - The Objectives in Meditation This real Self is God - God the triumphant, God the Creator, God the Savior of man. It is, in the words of St. Paul, "Christ in us, the hope of glory." This becomes a fact in our consciousness and not simply a much hoped for theory. [74] The educational process has perhaps done its main work in preparing the mind to undertake the work of meditation. It has taught us that we possess such an apparatus and has presented to us some of its ways of use. The psychologists have told us much about our mental reactions, and our instinctual habits. Now man must possess himself consciously of his instrument and pass out of the initial stages of the educational process into that classroom and interior laboratory where it is possible to ascertain God for himself as the objective of all education. Who was it said that the world is not a prison house but a spiritual kindergarten, where millions of bewildered children are trying to spell God? The mind sends us hither and thither in the work of spelling out truth until the day dawns when, exhausted, we retire within ourselves and meditate and then find God. As Dr. Overstreet says: "All our enduring quest then gets its explanation and its significance. It is the God operative within ourselves. As, then, we discover the more enduring values, or as we create them, we enact God in our own lives."

Sir James Jeans' remarks on the Poynting Vector, 1933
This extract is from the classic text, "The Mathematical Theory of Electricity and Magnetism", by Sir James Jeans, published by Cambridge University Press in the fifth edition of 1933. Page 519. quote.. ...end quote
Comments
The Poynting theorem actually is a relationship between the divergence (div S) of the Poynting vector flux S and the sources of energy at a point. For a region containing no sources or sinks of energy, the Poynting theorem merely states that div S = 0, and therefore by the divergence theorem, that the integral of the normal component of S over a closed surface surrounding a region containing no sources or sinks of energy must also be zero. There is, as Sir James points out, no reason at all to identify S with a local flow of energy. His remarks about "circulation" merely say that if div S = then S, if it exists, (that is to say, it is not zero everywhere) must be the curl of another vector (say T), since if S = curl T then div S is then identically zero by the well known vector identity div (curl[a vector field]) = 0. Thus we can envisage a region containing a Poynting flux S where there is no power flow, provided S = curl T. D.Jefferies

BBC News Magazine
As with fashion, styles come and go in buildings. With the haircuts, clothes and music of the 1980s making a comeback, is its architecture due a revival?
The building One Poultry is nothing if not an eye-catcher. Like a proud ocean liner breasting the waves of commerce, this pink-and-yellow banded block stands out amidst the more demurely hued buildings in the City of London. This post-modern icon was an unintended consequence of Prince Charles's campaign against "carbuncles" in 1984, although its playful curves could not be further from the classical elegance favoured by the prince. The royal broadside against modern architecture resulted in plans for a minimalist Mies van der Rohe tower on the site being torn up. The prince had asked "Why has everything got to be vertical, straight and unbending and only right angles; why can't we have curves?" HOT OR NOT?
