Collected Works in Mathematics and Statistics
This is a list of Mathematics and Statistics collected works that can be found at Dalhousie University and at other Halifax universities. The vast majority of these works are located in the Killam Library on the Dalhousie campus. A guide to other locations is given at the end of this list. If a title is owned by both Dalhousie and another university, only the Dalhousie site is listed. For all locations, and for full bibliographic details, see the NOVANET library catalogue This list was compiled, and the collection is being enlarged, with the invaluable help of the Bibliography of Collected Works maintained by the Cornell University Mathematics Library. The thumbnail sketches of mathematicians were taken from the MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive at the University of St. Andrews. For correction, comments, or questions, write to Karl Dilcher ( dilcher@mscs.dal.ca You can scroll through this list, or jump to the beginning of the letter:

Use of Tabulated Thermochemical Data for Pure Compounds
Nathan Jacobson
NASA John Glenn Research Center, 21000 Brookpark Rd., Cleveland, OH 44135 Thermodynamic data for inorganic compounds are found in a variety of tabulations and computer databases. The common tabulations and various data formats are discussed. Depending on the database, enthalpies are reported as sensible heats or enthalpy functions. Free energies are reported as free energies of formation, free energy functions, or Gibbs energies. Standard states may be the stable form at the temperature of interest or at 298.15 K. Equations for using these various forms of thermodynamic data are derived and illustrated with examples.

Contact: Mark Merchant, EPA Press Office (617-918-1013) For Immediate Release: April 18, 2001 Release # 01-04-23 The Connecticut winners were among 33 recipients from around New England that received Environmental Merit Awards at an Earth Day ceremony at Faneuil Hall. The awards, given out since 1970, honor individuals and groups who have shown particular ingenuity and commitment in their efforts to preserve the region's environment. This year's competition drew nearly 100 nominations. Additional Information 2001 Environmental Merit Award Recipients "The individuals and groups we are honoring today are New England's real environmental heroes," said Ira Leighton, acting regional administrator for EPA New England. "Often with little fanfare, they have invested huge amounts of their time to make New England's environmental cleaner and safer for future generations. We owe them all a huge debt of gratitude." Scope and Contents
Transcripts of oral history interviews with 43 individuals concerning their memories of mathematics at Princeton University during the 1930s. The interviews focus on the institutional and social context of the Princeton graduate program and the Institute for Advanced Study as they developed, as well as the personalities of the people involved. Prominent individuals involved with Princeton in the 1930s included James Alexander, Albert Einstein, Luther Eisenhart, Solomon Lefschetz, Marston Morse, Oswald Veblen, John von Neumann, Hermann Weyl and Eugene Wigner. Most of these individuals had died at the time of these interviews, however several faculty members as well as graduate students, visitors and permanent researchers took part in the oral history project. Arranged alphabetically by interviewee.

A Unified Field Theory of Design

by Nathan Shedroff Information Interaction Design. In other circles, it is called simply Information Design, Information Architecture, or Interaction Design, Instructional Design, or just plain Common Sense. Many people create or engineer interactions, presentations, and experiences for others. Almost all interactionswhether part of a book, a directory, a catalog, a newspaper, or a television programcan be created or addressed by one process. This process can be used to produce every CD-ROM, kiosk, presentation, game, and online service. It can also be used for every dance, music, comedy, or theater performance. While the traditions and technologies may change with every discipline, the process does not.
next Note: This paper is now a chapter in the book Information Design, edited by Bob Jacobson and published by MIT Press. If you prefer Italian, Franco Giovannini , has posted an excellent translation back to thoughts nathan.com Nathan Shedroff
