Hurewicz theorem
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Hurewicz isomorphism In mathematics , the Hurewicz theorem is a basic result of algebraic topology , connecting homotopy theory with homology theory . The theorem states that for a CW-complex X that is connected and simply connected , the least value of k ≥ 2 such that the homotopy group
k X
is also the least value of k homology group (with integer coefficients)
H k X
and further that for this value, those two abelian groups are isomorphic. The theorem is due to Witold Hurewicz . The proof is based on the construction of the Hurewicz homomorphism In case the first homotopy group is noncommutative, then this theorem says that its abelianization is isomorphic to the first homology group.

Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer
In classical mathematics, he founded modern topology by establishing, for example, the topological invariance of dimension and the fixpoint theorem. He also gave the first correct definition of dimension. In philosophy, his brainchild is intuitionism, a revisionist foundation of mathematics. Intuitionism views mathematics as a free activity of the mind, independent of any language or Platonic realm of objects, and therefore bases mathematics on a philosophy of mind. The implications are twofold. First, it leads to a form of constructive mathematics, in which large parts of classical mathematics are rejected. Second, the reliance on a philosophy of mind introduces features that are absent from classical mathematics as well as from other forms of constructive mathematics: unlike those, intuitionistic mathematics is not a proper part of classical mathematics.

Kluwer Academic Punlishers, Dordrecht, 1997 This is the first of three volumes which are collections of articles by many authors. In this volume, there are 17 articles, an introduction and an index. Many of the articles contain extensive bibliographies of the writings of the people studied, and of auxiliary and secondary literature. The first article in this volume, Felix Hausdorff (1868-1942) , by Gerhard Preuss, in a way sets the tone for the entire collection of articles. Preuss quotes Hausdorff's work Das Chaos in Kosmische Auslese Chaos in Cosmic Selection Auslese can connote an idea of choice as in the English choice specimen , or even a choice selection State of the world is a filled timespan of length zero, just as a moment is an empty timespan of length zero. The state of the world is to the filled timespan as the moment is to the empty timespan or as the point is to the line. Filled time is a continuum of states of the world, simply extended, just as the empty time is a continuum of moments, simply extended, and the line is a continuum of points simply extended."
