In CONGRESS, July 4, 1776 The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

Survey leader Ian Miller Summary Twenty-two reefs in the Townsville sector of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) were surveyed by manta tow (Figure 1). Detailed benthic surveys, fish visual census and surveys for agents of coral mortality (SCUBA searches) were completed on eight of these reefs. Preliminary results of the manta tow surveys are presented in this report. COTS at Active Outbreak levels were detected on 9 of the 24 reefs surveyed in the Townsville sector. The centre of outbreaks on the central GBR is currently located amongst mid-shelf reefs north-east of Townsville. Active Outbreaks are now being detected to the south of this region. In AIMS’ recent manta tow surveys, the southernmost outbreak in the central GBR is on Charity Reef in the Cape Upstart sector. Overall numbers of COTS are high on those Townsville reefs with Active Outbreaks and some have already experienced rapid declines in reef-wide cover of live coral. The current wave of outbreaks differs from the previous one in that a smaller proportion of reefs in the Townsville sector have so far developed Active Outbreaks. Coral bleaching was present on all reefs surveyed. Levels of bleaching were generally restricted to small numbers of scattered colonies. A Summary of the results are presented in Table 1. This outline gets its information from : A BIOGRAPHY OF JOHN HART, SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE by Cleon E. Hammond , published by Pioneer Press. Its the best book available on the signer and I recommend it to anyone interested in the colonial or Rev. war period. It is out of print, but you may be able to get it through inter-library loans, or the used market. There is no known picture of John Hart, signer, from during HIS LIFETIME , or I would have put it here. There is a claim of a picture which was painted in the 1860's, supposed copied from an original, but the family knew of no picture when the first biographies were done around 1800. First, common mistakes in John Hart histories:
John Hart's father did not come from Connecticut, his grandfather came from Long Island, but may have been born across the Sound in Connecticut. The signer was born in Hopewell township. John Hart did not have to hide for months from the British. They were not in the area but from December 8th. 1776, when Washington retreated into Pennsylvania, until at most December 26th, when he captured Trenton. In reality, the actual time was a few days when troops were in the area. They damaged his house and farm, but it was not destroyed. As the outline shows, his wife died in October, so the British did not drive him from her side. Most of his children were grown, so he did not lose them. The two minors went to family nearby while he hid, then everything went back to "normal" after a few days. He did not die a "broken man" from losing his family- he did not lose them, he died of kidney stones after a long, very painful illness- surrounded by family, in his intact home, on his large, still working, farm.

WESTERLY, RI - John Christian Hopkins, a former tribal Council member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, has recently published his first novel, a work of historical fiction entitled "Carlomagno."
A veteran journalist, Hopkins - who won four writing awards at the 2003
Native American Journalists Association annual convention - currently is a
staff writer for The Pequot Times, the tribal newspaper of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation in Connecticut, and a Sunday columnist for The Westerly Sun .  "I fell in love with books when I was about 6. I used to sleep cuddling a book in my arms while other kids my age held teddy bears," said Hopkins, 43. "I prayed to God to let me write books during my lifetime."
"Carlomagno" - available currently through www.iUniverse.com - is the story of an Indian youth who is sold as a slave in the West Indies, but is
determined to become free and one day return to his beloved New England. The Spanish Main of the late 17th century is a volatile mix of political intrigue and dashing swashbuckling. Carlomagno - Spanish for Charlemagne - takes the only road open to him and takes to the turquoise seas of the Caribbean as a pirate.
