Adam Smith's first published work HAMILTON,William of Bangour Poems on Several Occasions. Foolscap octavo, contemporary calf a little scuffed and rubbed, spine of five raised bands with gilt leaf designs in the compartments, upper hinge skilfully restored, red morocco label, (3) + 148pp, with Adam Smith's Preface dated Glasgow, December 21 1748, tear to inner margin of title not touching any text skilfully repaired, some light thumb-stains to some leaves, bookplate of Fort Augustus Abbey Library, a good copy. First edition containing Adam Smith's first published work - the Preface to these poems. William Hamilton of Bangour (1704-1754) was a Jacobite poet-laureate who, because of his Jacobite activities, was in exile from 1747 until his pardon in 1750. The publication of this edition was arranged in his absence by a group of his Scottish friends. Adam Smith was asked, possibly by Kames, to provide an unsigned preface for this octavo volume. "Hamilton's poetry reflected a broad range of literary culture, from an imitation ballad in Scots... to 'imitations' or free adaptations of Pindar, Anacreon, Sophocles, Virgil, Horace, Shakespeare, and Racine, and the first rendering into English blank verse of a passage from Homer". Ross.

While sailing up the St. Lawrence River, Cartier noticed that the Indians referred to their settlements as kanata , which, from its repetition, the French took to be the name of the entire country. Such it was destined to become in 1867.

Honey,
Here I am in Kuwait with the Navy. I miss you very much and I think of you every day. I wish we were together. I am so close to retirement now. All the plans that I had in mind for us after retirement will not come to be now. I regret so many things. I look forward to seeing you again one day. I love you now and forever, Bill "Cindy" (csuzanne@earthlink.net)

Hi honey,
I can hardly believe that it has been so long since I have written anything. So much has been going on in my life lately. It seems that as the time increases since your demise here, the closer I feel to you. I miss you every day. There are so many things that stimulate memories of you each day. I often find myself talking to you. I miss hearing your voice and most especially your laughter. I recall how whenever I heard your laughter it made me feel so warm and happy. I miss our weekend trips together and the comfort I felt having you near me as I slept. I cannot to this day understand how I was never able to share these feelings with you when we were together. I guess it was my own insecurities about myself that prevented me from saying how I really felt. I pray that your special insight into things allowed you to understand how much I cherished you. I know now, much too late that too many things went unspoken. I think I took way too much for granted.

T22N R21E Sec 6 Contributed by Howard Lowell, Nov 11, 2000 [ aux247@aol.com ]. Total records = 71. Hamilton Cemetery is on Private Property. Permission is needed to get to this cemetery. Go north on Eastmont Ave. After 1 1/2 miles from 15th St NE on the road to Fancher Field, turn right on dirt road, (Sand Canyon). There is a gate a half mile off of the pavement and is posted for no trespassing. The cemetery is 1.3 miles up Sand Canyon from the pavement. There are some unmarked Graves, the number is unknown at this time. I think this cemetery is cleaned once a year for Memorial Day. It is in pretty good shape. I walked Hamilton Cemetery 30 Oct 2000. Additional names are from a submission by Mrs Wm. (Darlene) Carpenter in 1982 stating they are buried here, indicated with [DC]. An asterisk * has been placed after any entries with no marker. - Howard Lowell Adams, Baby
