One of the many reasons to love the Criterion Collection is the eclectic selections of films picked for release. Not only acclaimed classics such as Children of Paradise or Juliet of the Spirits get the lush make-over and high-quality transfer, but less obvious choices like The Rock, Tokyo Drifter , and the videos of the Beastie Boys also become part of the celebrated series. David Gordon Green's George Washington , an indie movie that's barely two years old, snugly fits into the tradition of surprising Criterion discs.

George Green and mathematics
by Rev. Dr. John Polkinghorne FRS George Green (1793-1841) was the son of a baker who left school after only four terms to work in his father's mill at Sneinton, Nottingham. He continued to study mathematics alone, and in 1828 published his first and greatest work "An Essay on the Application of Mathematical Analysis to the Theories of Electricity and Magnetism". At the age of forty he entered Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge, took his degree with high honours in 1837, and then resumed his research. His health failed and he returned to Nottingham where he died at 3 Notintone Place, Sneinton (the street where William Booth had been born some twelve years earlier).
Green's Mill has been restored to fully working order, and there is a small science museum for children at its base.
A civic service of thanksgiving was held in St Stephen's Church, Sneinton on 13th July 1993, at which the following address was given. But the work of George Green illustrates an even more remarkable principle than that of the irresistible assertion of mathematical talent. In his celebrated essay of 1828 Green wrote that

Black Shirts in Green Trousers Filed under: The far right is moving in, and greens and globalisation campaigners must do more to shut it out.
By George Monbiot. Published in the Guardian 30th April 2002 Both charges are ridiculous. The space seized by Le Pen was not created or fragmented by the critics of inequality, corporate power and environmental destruction, but by the inequality, the power and the destruction themselves, and the abject failure of Lionel Jospin to address them. But there is no question that the far right, just as it has always sought to ride on the back of the labour movement, is now seeking to climb aboard the unleaded bandwagon driven by the new progressives. There is also no question that we have been far too slow to push the racists off. BNP So the BNP The BNP BNP The far right claims to be contesting an imperialist homogenisation, but at the same time it is developing one of its own: telling people which culture they belong to and what its characteristics should be. It has simply reinvented the ghetto. BNP Anti-racism is not just about defending the victims of abuse. It is also about defending ourselves from becoming the unwitting accomplices of those who seek a segregated world.

In order to promote sustainable, ecologically sound policies, Lakoff suggests we need more than the facts on our side we must work proactively to re-frame the debate. You are here: Nfa History Bioscopes Presenters Bioscope Presenters: George Green George Green was probably one of the most successful of the showmen who pioneered the cinematograph on the fairground. With Randall Williams he was one of the original pioneers of fairground cinema, when he exhibited moving pictures at the Carnival building in December 1896. According to a letter from his son Herbert in 1946, George Green visited London with his brother John in the autumn of 1896 and purchased a theatrograph of Robert W. Paul. After many hours of practice the family exhibited films in the Carnival during the Christmas festivities, however, it did not appear on the fairground until 1898. Although George Green travelled several large shows, including the ex-Leo American Exhibition, the most extravagant was one he purchased from President Kemp in 1913, the Theatre Unique. This show was advertised for sale in the World's Fair at the beginning of August and the For Sale column provides us with a detailed description of the show, its seating capacity and interior decorations. George Green travelled the Theatre Unique with the ex-Leo show and replaced the original ground booth show. The decline in popularity of these shows is illustrated by the continual For Sale notices made regarding these shows.

George Galloway MP
Voting record
How George Galloway voted on key issues in the 2001-2005 parliament (From Public Whip) How is the voting record decided? The voting record is not affected by what MPs have said, only how they voted in relation to that topic in the house - i.e. "aye" or "no". Votes on each topic were examined, and strength of support determined based on these votes. Additionally, in many votes, MPs are told how to vote ('whipped') by their parties. Since the Whip is secret, we have to assume, like the Speaker , that all votes are free.

He did it so fast we really appreciate it. We are back from Whistler BC. What a great place to visit. In fact we liked it so well we spent an extra day. Let me tell you about how well they treat dogs at the Delta Hotels and Resorts. They welcome dogs and have treats for dogs. All their staff members like dogs and they call you by name. What a nice hotel. And a beautiful place to visit. It is up in the mountains and there is snow up there. Of course I have never been to Canada or seen snow. Streams flow from the snow and the water is green . George says it come from glaciers. The water is very cold. We did lots of walking around and seeing the sights. And I got to ride in an elevator for the first time. It was a nice trip. Today there must be a 1000 boats on Lake Washington all fishing for Salmon. It is a one day event from sun up to sunset. They are fishing for sock eye Salmon. They must be very nice to eat as their are many many folks out there fishing.
