After the battle of San Jacinto qv qv He was discharged on June 20, 1836, and soon enlisted as a private in Capt. William H. Hill's company of Texas Rangers, qv in which he served from July 1 until October 1, 1836. Green settled in Milam County and in 1837 served under William Mosby Eastland qv on a campaign against the Indians. In 1840 Green married Martha Chance. They had seven children. In 1841 Green followed Edwin Morehouse qv against the Indians in Milam and Cameron counties. Thereafter he helped George B. Erath qv to survey Milam, Falls, McLennan, and several other Central Texas counties. By 1850 he had amassed $3,500 in real property in Milam County. On May 11, 1853, Green was elected a Milam County delegate to the state Democratic convention, to be held at Washington, Texas, in June. After the death of his first wife he married Martha Hasseltine, in 1861; they had six children. On July 15, 1881, Green began to draw his pension as a Texas veteran. He died in his home near Cameron on April 19, 1885, and was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery. Green, George
English mathematician who coined the term 'potential', now a central concept in electricity, and introduced Green's theorem, which is still applied in the solution of partial differential equations; for instance, in the study of relativity.
Green was born in Nottingham and studied mathematics by himself until at the age of 40 he became a student at Cambridge, and later a member of the staff.
Green's groundbreaking paper was published 1828 and in it he demonstrated the importance of 'potential function' (also known as the Green function) in both magnetism and electricity, and showed how the Green theorem enabled volume integrals to be reduced to surface integrals. It stimulated great interest, and was to influence such scientists as James Clerk Maxwell and Lord Kelvin.
Green went on to produce other important papers on fluids (1832, 1833), attraction (1833), waves in fluids (1837), sound (1837), and light (1837).

George Green 's father, also called George Green, was a baker in Nottingham. After serving his apprenticeship to a baker in Nottingham George Green Senior had married Sarah Butler (the mathematician's mother) in 1791 and Sarah's father had helped George Green Senior to buy his own bakery in Wheatsheaf Yard in Nottingham. George and Sarah had one son and one daughter. The son was George Green, the mathematician and, although the date of his birth is unknown, he was baptised on 14 July 1793. His sister Ann was born two years later and the family were reasonably prosperous with the bakery business being successful. In September 1800 there were riots in England when food prices were high and people did not have enough to eat. The corn dealers and bakers were blamed for keeping back food until the prices rose even higher and crowds of people broke into bakers and tried to steal food. George Green's bakery was attacked and the he wrote a letter to the mayor asking for protection (the spelling and capital letters follow Green's letter):- Sept th To the Right Worshipfull the Mayor and his Bretheren haveing all my Windows Broke Last night and being much thretend tonight with more mischief being done to me such as entering my House therefore Gentlemen I most Humbly crave your protection such as the Berer of this can explain to you from your Humble servant George Green.

Updated by the P.O.W. NETWORK in 1998. REMARKS: SYNOPSIS: Sgt. George C. Green Jr. was a rifleman assigned to Special Operations Augmentation, Command & Control Detachment, MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam Studies and Observation Group). MACV-SOG was a joint service high command unconventional warfare task force engaged in highly classified operations throughout Southeast Asia. The 5th Special Forces channeled personnel into MACV-SOG (although it was not a Special Forces group) through Special Operations Augmentation (SOA), which provided their "cover" while under secret orders to MACV-SOG. The teams performed deep penetration missions of strategic reconnaissance and interdiction which were called, depending on the time frame, "Shining Brass" or "Prairie Fire" missions. Green's long range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP) was operating in Attopeu Province, Laos about 20 miles west of the South Vietnamese city of Dak Sut on December 4, 1970. At 0920 hours that day, the enemy assaulted the team at a landing zone (LZ) with rifle fire and rocket propelled grenades. Green was hit three times and was instantly killed. Because of the intensity of the enemy attack and fire, the recon team had to leave Green's remains behind. Later aerial searches were made of the area, but Green's body was not seen. Because of enemy control of the area, no ground search was possible. Green is one of nearly 600 Americans lost in Laos. Although the communist government of Laos stated publicly that they held American prisoners, they insisted the POWs would be released only from Laos. The U.S. would not negotiate with the communist faction, a "government" they did not officially recognize, and as a result, not one American held in Laos was ever released. For every insertion like Green's that were detected and stopped, dozens of other commando teams safely slipped past NVA lines to strike a wide range of targets and collect vital information. The number of MACV-SOG missions conducted with Special Forces reconnaissance teams into Laos and Cambodia was 452 in 1969. It was the most sustained American campaign of raiding, sabotage and intelligence-gathering waged on foreign soil in U.S. military history. MACV-SOG's teams earned a global reputation as one of the most combat effective deep-penetration forces ever raised. The missions Green and others were assigned were exceedingly dangerous and of strategic importance. The men who were put into such situations knew the chances of their recovery if captured was slim to none. They quite naturally assumed that their freedom would come by the end of the war. For 591 Americans, freedom did come at the end of the war. For another nearly 600 lost in Laos, however, freedom has never come. Since the war ended, nearly 10,000 reports relating to missing Americans in Southeast Asia have been received by the U.S., convincing many authorities that hundreds remain alive in captivity. While Green may not be among them, one can imagine his pride in mounting one more mission to help them to freedom. What are we doing to bring these men home?

Pros
I don't even know where to beginthis film is that good Cons I can't think of any The Bottom Line Riveting, haunting, realistic, original. Try applying any of those words to your average Hollywood dreck! Green's indie film is ten times better than most flicks with ten times its budget. Full Review David Gordon Green’s George Washington is to film as William Carlos Williams’ The Red Wheelbarrow is to poetry: deceptively simple, richly evocative. so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. Like Williams, Green delivers such compelling images, told in the most whittled-down of terms, that they resonate in our heads, flicker behind our eyeballs long after the final period has been inked or the last frame of film has looped through the projector. In George Washington , so much depends on a rubber dinosaur mask.

In later life, he resided in Delphi, Carroll County, Indiana, had one son, Tenesson, and lived at least until 1860. Nothing further can be determined about his life. Although the commonplace book contains notes of an unnamed student from the University of Pennsylvania, 1817-1820, and a student named George Green (1799-1859) did attend the University of Pennsylvania's Medical Department from 1816 to 1821, receiving an M.D. in 1820, the facts known about his life are inconsistent with those determined about George Green, Sr., from internal evidence in the volume. The unnamed student was possibly some member of George Green's family. The student was also probably an apothecary, and, in 1824, considered establishing his family and practice in Caracas, Venezuela. Before the voyage to Caracas, the student was living in Philadelphia and working as apothecary to an "Institution" under a Dr. Griffitts. This may be a reference to the Southern Dispensary where Samuel Powel Griffiths was president of the Board of Managers at the time. Scope and contents The contents of this commonplace book of George Green, Sr., divide naturally into three series: medical lecture notes and examination questions, many from the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania, 1817-1820; copies or drafts of personal correspondence, 1824 and undated; and poetry, literary sentences, and miscellaneous writings, 1858-1860 and undated. Medical items in the volume include a copy of notes on Philip Syng Physick's lecture on inflammation, [1819?] and an undated copy of Benjamin Rush's opening lecture on the practice of medicine in which he outlines his objections to nosology. At the end of the volume are two sets of examination questions and answers used by the student for review of material. The questions on midwifery, obstetrics, and gynecology, [1817?], are probably derived from the lectures of Thomas C. James. The final medical section of the volume contains questions and answers, June 1817, based on the lectures of John Syng Dorsey on materia medica. The commonplace book also contains an extensive section of notesjfrom the lectures of Joseph Parrish on diseases of the eye, 1819, and a copy, dated December, 1820, of Parrish's 1819 lectures on diseases of the nose and throat. Another item of interest, possibly written by the unnamed medical student, is an unsigned draft of a letter from Caracas, Venezuela, dated February 1824. The letter describes the writer's good health and the possibility of making a living in Caracas as either an apothecary or a physician, then instructs the recipient to sell most of their stock and possessions, convey his resignation as apothecary to Dr. Griffitts, and request a testimonial. The remainder of material in the volume consists of essays, poetry, literary sentences, and drafts and copies of personal letters, 1858-1860 and undated. There is also one folder of undated letters, fragments, and printed material. All of the later material in the volume appears to have been written, copied, or compiled by George Green, Sr., of Delphi, Indiana. Provenance The George Green commonplace book was purchased by the Historical Collections of the College of Physicians from Lawrence Feinberg Rare Books and Manuscripts, Brooklyn, New York, in 1982. Before this, the volume was in the possession of Paul Brooks (otherwise unknown) who conveyed it to a Dr. Miles. The volume was catalogued in 1989. 1 volume, 1 folder 1817-1860 6/20/1990 jde
