Edit Your Page In the area of the McLaughlin's I am still searching for information and will update this page as it is found. In researching the McMahan clan, most of the information came from the Smokey Mountains Home Page and visiting Oklahoma where many of them are buried at Brown Cemetary.
In 1983 my grandmother Mary Emma Pearl McMahan McLaughlin told me that we were releated to Dolly Parton and when she was about 12 or 13 she and her family rode a train from Tennesse. At that time I really had no idea what she was talking about unitl I started doing my research. What I found was my grandmothers mother's name was Mattilda Rhodella Parton and she had married McNulty McMahan. I found that great-grandmother Matilda Rhodella Parton was releated to Dolly Parton via great great grandfathers.

He enlisted in the Texas Army on March 17, 1836, and served in Captain Jesse Billingsley’s Company C at the Battle of San Jacinto. Discharged on June 20, 1836, Green joined Captain William W. Hill’s company of Rangers for a three-month enlistment. Soon after leaving Hill’s Rangers, Green settled in Milam County in 1837 and participated in campaigns against the Indians in Central Texas in 1837 and 1841.

Lyrics for Song: George's Bar
Lyrics for Album: Live at Billy Bob's Texas
My brother and I used to go down to George's Bar, and drink big O's until they close down the place, we'd talk about our lives, dreams and ambitions, I still recall the smile upon his face. He took off for the bright lights of Austin, said Pat don't you know there ain't no money here, he made a billion bucks selling computers, I still go to George's and drink my beer.
He's gone, yeah he's gone, but I'm still here. He's gone, yeah he's gone, but I'm still here. There was this curly headed girl back in the seventh grade, she didn't even know she caught my eye, we dated for a while back in high school, I thought that one day she'd be my wife. The road took a turn somewhere around eighteen, she took off to find her own way, feel in for some Nashville high roller, I know he gonna break her heart one day. She's gone, yeah she's gone, but I'm still here

10th Green Howards Enlistment Battle of Loos Battle of the Somme ... Passchendaele- "Graveyard in the mud" End of the 10th Battalion The Finish Undated Reminiscences Links Before it was to late , I decided to try and record the experiences and history of my father George Henry Ord during World War 1 . It is meant to be a history for the benefit of my family and those to come and for those having relatives who served in the Battalion and want to track the 10 th Battalions movements during World War 1 . Wherever possible I have concentrated on " dates and places " as some people may wish to visit the Battle sites and follow in their footsteps . Most of all I want it to be a record dedicated to him and his mates so that they and their sacrifices ,should never be forgotten .None of the following would have possible without the help of : Lt. Col Neil McIntosh of the Green Howards Museum , Richmond , Nth Yorks . In addition five books proved invaluable for giving me an overall view and for some intriguing facts , they are " They called it Passchendaele " and "1915" by Lyn Macdonald (Penguin) , " The 1st day of the Somme" by Martin Middlebrook (Penguin) , " First World War" by Martin Gilbert ( Harper Collins) and "Deaths Men " by Denis Winter (Penguin) . All are excellent reads for anyone interested in this topic . Or, How I Learned to Start Worrying and Love the Founders
by David Michael Green
I am a political scientist by training and by trade, but that doesn't mean I have long revered the Founders of the American republic. Indeed, it took the Bush presidency to bring me to a full recognition of their wisdom and their contribution. Americans are wont to worship the Founders as icons, very often without knowing why, and certainly without much consideration of their flaws. It would be an interesting exercise, I imagine, to ask them what they thought of these men ("Hey, great guys!"), and then follow up by asking why they feel this way. My suspicion is that one would get lots of vague pronouncements about the Revolutionary War and the Constitution and freedom and democracy and such. The case of the revolution has always been rather odd, given the inherent conservatism of American domestic and foreign policy, and the country's far too frequent (and far too successful) efforts historically at stifling revolutionary attempts at liberation at home and especially abroad. As for the rest, for decades polling data has demonstrated a lack of broad support for the sort of civil liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights, when asked in the abstract. And I will risk being labeled elitist to suggest that many Americans have only a vague grasp, if any at all, of the significance of concepts like separation of powers, federalist power sharing, bicameralism, separation of church and state, etc. Given that there are nearly two hundred other countries in the world, not to mention loads more historical regimes to choose from, this weak appreciation for the Constitution is likely especially true in a comparative sense. That is, what makes this particular governmental scheme better than, say, the British one, which is highly different but certainly still a democracy?
