Clebsch-Gordan coefficients
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In physics , more precisely in quantum mechanics , the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients are the numerical constants that express the probability amplitude for the spins j j with z -projections m m to add to j with projection where are the CG coefficients.
m m m if
The following holds: renaming m to m ' and m to m ' and applying the J operator
and arbitrarily choosing one particular m and m and multiplying both sides by a bra on the left (note that with the new m and m , m + m = m ± 1 when the coefficients are not 0) j ;m m j ;m '±1,m ' ≠ m ∓ 1 or m ' ≠ m ) etc... replacing m with m ∓ 1 so that again m + m = m when the coefficients are not For more coefficients, see table of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients In more mathematical terms, the CG coefficients are used in the representation theory , particularly of compact Lie groups , to perform the explicit direct sum decomposition of the tensor product of two irreducible representations , into irreducible representations, in cases where the numbers and types of irreducible components are already known abstractly. The naming derives from the German mathematicians

Died: 21 Dec 1912 in Erlangen, Germany
Paul Gordan is one of the major figures in invariant theory. He attended lectures by Kummer and then studied under Jacobi. Gordan worked with Clebsch on invariant theory and algebraic geometry. He also gave simplified proofs of the transcendence of e and . Emmy Noether was his only doctoral student. He lived most of his life in Germany. Rudolf Friedrich Alfred Clebsch
Born: 19 Jan 1833 in Königsberg, Germany (now Kaliningrad, Russia)
Died: 7 Nov 1872 in Göttingen, Germany
Alfred Clebsch entered the school of mathematics at the University of Königsberg in 1850. In this school, founded by Jacobi, he was influenced by Jacobi through his teachers Hesse and Friedrich Richelot who were both students of Jacobi. In fact although he never met Jacobi, who died one year after Clebsch entered the University of Königsberg, Jacobi was to influence him both through these two teachers and also directly through the fact that Clebsch was to collaborate in the production of the Collected Works of Jacobi. At Königsberg Clebsch was taught mathematical physics by Franz Neumann. After graduating in 1854 Clebsch went to Berlin where he taught at various schools. His first academic appointment was in 1858 when he was appointed to the University of Berlin. He left after a short spell and, still in 1858, he took up an appointment at the Technische Hochschule in Karlsruhe. Clebsch had submitted a doctoral dissertation to Königsberg on hydrodynamics. At the start of his research career his topics were mainly concerned with hydrodynamics and elasticity. He remained in Karlsruhe until 1863 but before he left Karlsruhe the direction of his research had changed. The end of his work on applied mathematical topics is perhaps most clearly defined by the publication of

CERES Green Van - Powered by vegetable oil! Sustainability Research and Practice
In our commitment to sustainability research and practice CERES has been experimenting with powering a diesel van on (almost) nothing but vegetable oil! We run the 1988 Toyota Hiace van (donated by Terry White) on bio-diesel and plan to for the rest of its working life.
What is Bio Diesel?
The fuel to run our Green vehicle is derived from waste vegetable oil from fish and chip fryers and the like. Whilst it is possible to use neat vegetable oil in diesel engines it is preferable to convert it into bio-diesel a thinner product that is much more amenable to the modern diesel engine. Bio-diesel is produced after mixing vegetable oil with a mixture of methanol (alcohol derived from cellulose) and caustic soda. A 10% byproduct of glycerin is produced (this can be used directly as a cleanser, for making soap or simply composted). Bio diesel will run in any diesel engine!

The Paul Oskar Kristeller Lifetime Achievement Award
This Award honors a lifetime of uncompromising devotion to the highest standard of scholarship accompanied by exceptional achievement in Renaissance studies. It is intended for a scholar near the end of his or her career, whose accomplishments call to mind the example of Paul Oskar Kristeller. The Award is designed to honor a scholar for lifetime achievement, not for an individual work or works of scholarship. The recipient must be a living scholar who is, or has been, a member of the Renaissance Society of America. The Award will be given only when the lifetime achievement of a scholar makes it appropriate. Nominations for the Paul Oskar Kristeller Lifetime Achievement Award of RSA may come from an individual member of RSA or the Executive Board. Nominations should be submitted at least two months in advance of the October meeting of the Executive Board and should include a brief explanation and justification for the nomination plus a curriculum vitae. The Executive Board will consider nominations at the fall meeting and decide whether or not to make a Paul Oskar Kristeller Lifetime Achievement Award. If an award is to be made, it will be presented at the Annual Meeting.

About the RSA Membership Meetings Publications ... The Patricia H. Labalme Memorial Scholarship for Venetian Studies
The Paul Oskar Kristeller Fund
By John Monfasani The Executive Board of the Society voted in Toronto in March 2003 to solicit member donations for a new fund dedicated initially to help with completing the cataloguing of the papers, microfilms, and photographs that Paul Oskar Kristeller left to Columbia University's Rare Book and Manuscript Room and then, once that task is done, to support Renaissance manuscript research and what Kristeller once described as "depth bibliography." Kristeller gave a large quantity of material to Columbia in the 1980s, and using money from his MacArthur fellowship, he was able to pay for its cataloging. Thus, for instance, one can consult today at Columbia the fiftynine boxes of his correspondence from the 1920s to the 1980s in order to study his relationship not only with the likes of Martin Heidegger and Werner Jaeger but also with many living figures. To give another example, the Rare Book and Manuscript Room has recently also created a database running forty-one legal sized pages in printed form of the microfilms of manuscripts and printed books that Kristeller accumulated over the years as he worked on Iter Italicum and other projects. The consignment of materials turned over to Columbia after the completion of the 1980s project, along with the large quantity of papers, photographs of manuscripts, correspondence, and related items received by the Library after Kristeller's death remain to be processed (142 boxes covering 171.5 linear feet). Since the generous bequest left by Professor Kristeller is earmarked for acquistions and academic events only, funds are being sought to speed up the cataloging of these materials. Such cataloging is expensive because its technical nature requires professional expertise. One cannot expect workstudy students to understand Vatican fondi or to be able to read Kristeller's German gothic cursive script.

I Remember You Bebop Tango Francesco’s Rhumba Pavanne Tombeau Snakes and Ladders Good Morning Heartache Voyage The David Gordon trio is a long-established and highly fluent group, strong on soloistic verve, compositional excellence and corporate dynamism. Their influences are diverse – the notes talk of acoustic grooves, Celtic folk and baroque music – but that, I think, is to make the trio sound more fragmented and incoherent than is actually the case. Certainly there are elements of those influences here but the skill is to fuse and coalesce them seamlessly. A number of the songs are originals though there are a few standards here as well – I Remember You
