Fuller became famous for his huge geodesic domes , which can be seen as part of military radar stations, city halls, and exhibition attractions. Their construction is based on extending basic principles to build simple tensegrity structures ( tetrahedron octahedron , and the closest packing of spheres ). Built in this way they are extremely lightweight and stable. After getting a first patent for his domes in , Fuller went on to explore nature's constructing principles to find solutions for designs in many areas of human life. He designed and built a safer, aerodynamic Dymaxion car , a more accurate Dymaxion Map , energy-efficient and low-cost Dymaxion houses (the term " Dymaxion " is contracted from DYnamic MAXimum tensION), radically strong and light

Buckminster Fuller and Shoji Sadao (Fuller b. July 12 1893; d. July 1, 1983) Buckminster Fuller invented the geodesic dome, and a wide range of other paradigm-shifting machines and structural systems. He was especially interested in high-strength-to-weight designs, with a maximum of utility for minimum of material. His designs and engineering philosophy are part of the foundation of contemporary high-tech design aesthetics. CHARTING NEW ROUTES TO THE 21ST CENTURY
"T he Dark Ages still reign over all humanity, and the depth and persistence of this domination are only now becoming clear. This Dark Ages prison has no steel bars, chains, or locks. Instead, it is locked by misorientation and built of misinformation. Caught up in a plethora of conditioned reflexes and driven by the human ego, both warden and prisoner attempt meagerly to compete with God. All are intractably skeptical ol what they do not understand. We are powerfully imprisoned in these Dark Ages simply by the terms in which we have been conditioned to think." R. Buckminster Fuller , from "Cosmography" (MacMillan, 1932)
R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) sometimes called "the planet's friendly genius," gained renown as an inventor and designer of the Dymaxion House, the Dymaxion Car, the Dymaxion Map, and the Geodesic dome - the only structure that actually gets stronger as it gets larger. As a philosopher and systems thinker, he coined the term "Spaceship Earth" and organized the World Game.
He was the mathematician who discovered Synergetics, nature's geometry. Bucky was World Fellow in Residence at the University of Pennsylvania and was a recipient of the Medal of Freedom from President Ronald Reagan in 1981.

R. Buckminster Fuller
Versatile and creative as an engineer, designer, architect, and writer, R. Buckminster Fuller is perhaps best known for inventing the geodesic dome in the late 1940s. The geodesic dome is a lightweight and efficiently designed structure made up of interconnected tetrahedrons that give it a high strength-to-weight ratio. The geodesic dome reflects Fuller’s belief that technology should make efficient use of the earth’s limited resources and that technology should meet the needs and problems of modern life. Fuller, a great-nephew of the transcendentalist Margaret Fuller, was born in Milton, Massachusetts, July 12, 1895. He attended Harvard University from 1913 to 1915. In the early 1920s he joined his father-in-law in developing the Stockade Building System for producing lightweight, insulated, fireproof, and waterproof housing. When the company failed, Fuller dedicated himself to finding entirely new ways to increase the social benefits accruing from efficient and principled use of the earth's energy and material resources. http://www.who2.com/buckminsterfuller.html
R. BUCKMINSTER FULLER Inventor Philosopher Fuller was a 20th century inventor, mathematician and futurist. Philosophically he was concerned with meeting the needs of a growing global civilization while reducing the use of natural resources; his inventions were meant to achieve those goals by simplifying and improving human housing and the objects of daily life. Never quite a mainstream figure, Fuller was viewed by some as an impractical dreamer but embraced by others as a visionary genius. His most famous invention, the geodesic dome, uses a series of interlocking triangles to create a lightweight, sturdy dome which needs no internal supports.
