Outline of CosmicOS
It's a familiar problem. You've finally managed to contact that alien civilization. Things are going great. You feel like your world will never be the same, that whole new realms of possibilities are opening up before your eyes. Then, inevitably, a hint of strain starts to creep into your relationship. You find that you don't really have all that much in common. Heck, sometimes it feels like you're not even in the same galaxy. It's as if there is this vast gulf between you, making communication almost impossible. You're not even sure you'd understand each other no matter how physically close you become. What do you do? You design a language for cosmic intercourse. Hans Freudenthal made a start at one in his book, Lincos, published in 1960. I think it's time for version II, the all-new action-packed sequel guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat, which is a specific structure with a flat surface perpendicular to the pull of gravity, which is a thing that, oh never mind.

Prof. Dr. Hans Freudenthal (1905 - 1990)
Brouwer in 1930 assisteerde.

Freudenthal suspension theorem
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In mathematics , and specifically in the field of homotopy theory , the Freudenthal Suspension Theorem is the fundamental result leading to the concept of stabilization of homotopy groups and ultimately to stable homotopy theory . It explains the behavior of simultaneously taking suspensions and increasing the index of the homotopy groups of the space in question. It was proved in 1937 by Hans Freudenthal

Statement of the theorem
Let X be an n-connected pointed space (a pointed CW-complex or pointed simplicial set ). The map
X → Ω(X ∧ S
induces a map
k (X) → π k (Ω(X ∧ S
on homotopy groups, where denotes the loop functor and denotes the smash product . Then the induced map on homotopy groups is an isomorphism if
k n
and an epimorphism if
k = 2 n
Note that
k (Ω(X ∧ S k+1 (X ∧ S
so that the theorem could otherwise be stated in terms of the map
k (X) → π k+1 (X ∧ S
with the small caveat that in this case one must be careful with the indexing.

Citation for the 2003 ICMI Freudenthal Medal to Celia Hoyles
Celia Hoyles The first Hans Freudenthal Medal of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) is awarded to Professor Celia Hoyles. This distinction recognises the outstanding contribution that Celia Hoyles has made to research in the domain of technology and mathematics education, both in terms of theoretical advances and through the development and piloting of national and international projects in this field, aimed at improving through technology the mathematics education of the general population, from young children to adults in the workplace. Celia Hoyles studied mathematics at the University of Manchester, winning the Dalton prize for the best first-class degree in Mathematics. She began her career as a secondary teacher, and then became a lecturer at the Polytechnic of North London. She entered the field of mathematics education research, earning a Masters and Doctorate, and became Professor of Mathematics Education at the Institute of Education, University of London in 1984. Her early research in the area of technology and mathematics education, like that of many researchers, began by exploring the potential offered by Logo, and she soon became an international leader in this area. Two books published in 1986 and 1992 (edited) attested to the productivity of her research with Logo. This was followed, in 1996, by the publication of

    June 2000
    ICMI Executive Committees 1908-1998
During the fourth International Congress of Mathematicians, held in Rome in 1908, the following resolution was adopted:
"The Congress, recognizing the importance of a comparative study on the methods and plans of teaching mathematics at secondary schools, charges Professors F. Klein, G. Greenhill, and Henri Fehr to constitute an International Commission to study these questions and to present a report to the next Congress."

This resolution was submitted on the initiative of David Eugene Smith, who had suggested the idea of such an international commission three years earlier in the journal L'Enseignement Mathématique, in response to an article by Fehr. It marks the inception of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction - although the Commission was known in its earlier years as the "International Commission on the Teaching of Mathematics".
Over the years various Executives Committees of the Commission (first known as "Central Committees") have succeeded one another. The list of their officers and members appears below. This information has been gathered from the following sources:

LINCOS
"Lingua Cosmica. A language for extraterrestrial communication developed by Hans Freudenthal, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Utrecht. Details of it are presented in Freudenthal's book published in the Netherlands in 1960. LINCOS represents an extension of the logistic language of mathematics developed by Alfred North Whitehead and Bertrand Russell. It is intended to be conveyed by unmodulated radio signals of varying duration and wavelength which represent phonemes. The signals would be combined to make up concepts or words. Lancelot Hogben, who himself described a code for communication with alien intelligence, called Astraglossa , discussed Freudenthal's work. See also mathematics, as a universal language
