GEORGE FRANCIS FITZGERALD, 1851 - 1901
The Millenium Trinity Monday Memorial Discourse by Professor J. M. D. Coey
Professor J. M. D. Coey gave the traditional Trinity Monday Memorial Discourse on 14th May 2000 at 11.30 in the Graduates' Memorial Building, on George Francis FitzGerald. FitzGerald was a visionary physicist who predicted both the contraction of rapidly-moving bodies, a key element of Einstein's theory of relativity, and the generation of radio waves. In Trinity College, Dublin he is remembered for his pioneering attempts to fly in College Park in 1895 in a student-powered flying machine. He was the most accomplished Irish scientist of his generation, a combination of pure physicist, skilled mathematician and practical engineer. FitzGerald's passionate advocacy of practical education in science at all levels led to the establishment of the Dublin Institute of Technology. He foresaw the need for universities to embark on properly-funded research programmes in the sciences and engineering in order to promote industrial competitiveness and ensure the economic well-being of the country.

    George Francis FitzGerald
    Millenium Discourse by J. M. D. Coey
    Introduction
George Francis FitzGerald was born at No 19 Lower Mount Street on 3rd August 1851, That was the year the first census after the famine revealed a 25 % decline in the population of many Irish counties. At the time, his father William was Professor of Moral Philosophy in Trinity College Dublin and vicar of St Anne's, Dawson Street. The following year he was appointed Professor of Ecclesiastical History and he became rector of Monkstown and Archdeacon of Kildare before returning to his native Munster. Consecrated Bishop of Cork in 1857, William FitzGerald was translated to Killaloe in 1862 two years after his wife's death when George was eight. According to the Gazetteer of 1837, Clarisford house, the palace of the bishop of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert and Kilmacduagh on the West bank of the Shannon, "handsome and of modern appearance, though small, forms a pleasant residence". Today, washed a primrose yellow and standing in its long walled garden beside the river with magnolias and camellias flowering in April, it is the sort of period property which fetches a good seven figure sum at auction. At the age of 16 years, FitzGerald entered College. He graduated in 1871, the year of the Paris Commune, as first senior moderator in both mathematics and experimental science. Deciding on an academic career, he devoted the next six years of his life to preparing for the fellowship examination, reading Lagrange, Laplace, Hamilton, McCullagh and Berkley. He published his first paper on the Kerr effect, the basis of modern magneto-optic recording, in 1876, and spent that Summer at home in Killaloe preparing for his examination and measuring the temperature inversion after a sunny spell in Lough Derg which he later compared to Lake Geneva. Success at TCD came in 1877, on the second attempt.

Today Bush says he will fire for convictions, not mere leaks. The consensus of lawyers is that Karl Rove will be indicted in the Valerie Plame outing case and not for what you think. Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald appears to have a slam-dunk case under Title 18, Sec. 641, USC (which is NOT about outing a covert agent) just as the DOJ did for leaker Jonathan Randel, who got a year in prison. Karl Rove was abandoned by both of his parents the man he called Dad left home, Rove found out "Dad" wasn't his father after all (his aunt and uncle "outed" this at the dinner table), and his mother committed suicide.
    cartoon_soundkills.jpg, image/jpeg, 318x450
George Bush, his soulmate, won't can't abandon him: Bush was abandoned by his parents, as far as grief over the death of Bush's young sister when she and George were kids George Sr. and Barbara were on the golf course the next day. In short, Rove is closer to Bush than Bush's real brothers, and Bush is totally dependent on Rove professionally and other ways.
Here's why special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald should go down in history as the man who caught Rove. Chicago's famed judicial activist, Sherman Skolnick says so, for one thing. Skolnick, who knows everyone and everything that goes on in Clout City's courts, says that Fitzgerald is honest and "hardnosed" and that he has the goods on various people. Besides, there are statutes (below) and case law (United States vs. Randel) to cover what Karl Rove has *admitted* to. Yes, admitted to. Where they apparently "have him" is on CONVEYING WITHOUT AUTHORITY A THING HAVING VALUE (information has a market value to magazines and newspapers), and WHICH BELONGS TO THE GOVERNMENT. A Georgia man, Jonathan Clay Randel, was convicted under this law by Bush's Justice Department. There *will* be an indictment. It will be multicount; but the charge on Title 18, Sec. 641 USC is the easiest to prove, as I will illustrate.

FITZGERALD PRINTED BY GOODWILL INDUSTRIES TO MY BEST FRIEND PHYLLIS EVA FITZGERALD TO MY FAMILY This is a story. It is not an official family history, and it is certainly not fiction. All the characters you may meet within the following pages were, and are, real people. It is an historical novel. A literary critic may comment adversely on a family history which is evidently incorrect in facts and figures quoted. With a novel, however on the same grounds of accuracy, he may not. Because when certain details are not available the writer uses his imagination to successfully continue with his story. This I have done. I trust you find it readable.

    Rare Book Collections
[Please note that this text is from The George Arents Research Library at Syracuse University , Syracuse: Syracuse University Libraries. 1970. Since that time our collections have grown, and this should by no means be considered a comprehensive guide to the collections, but rather a fluid work in progress.] The Rare Book Collection of the Special Collections Research Center, Syracuse University Library, contains an extensive collection of a general nature. Many of the landmarks in the history of recorded communication between people are represented, from cuneiform tablet and papyrus to the present_day product of offset reproduction. The collection includes several codices dating from the 11th century to the invention of printing; the earliest printed item is a Buddhist scroll from the 9th century. Approximately thirty incunabula cover the period down to 1500; Aristotle, Virgil, Suetonius, Eusebius, Sacrobosco and Ptolemy are among the authors represented. Two items printed by William Caxton and a copy of the Nuremberg Chronicle also are in the collection.

In a high-spirited and free-wheeling interview with a handful of Texas print reporters yesterday, President Bush: · Expressed "complete confidence" in top aide Karl Rove while stubbornly refusing to say anything more about what he knows about the investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's identity. · Said he still believes his friend, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro, has never used steroids in spite of the player's suspension Monday for violating baseball's anti-drug policy. · Endorsed efforts by Christian conservatives to include the teaching of "intelligent design" as an alternative to evolution in public school science classes. The Full Transcript I've just Web-published the complete transcript of the 30-minute interview in the Roosevelt Room another White House Briefing exclusive. Bush spoke with Gary Martin of the San Antonio Express-News, Julie Mason of the Houston Chronicle, David Jackson of the Dallas Morning News, Ron Hutcheson of Knight-Ridder (representing the Fort Worth Star-Telegram) and Ken Herman of Cox News Service (representing the Austin American-Statesman and other Cox papers in Texas).
