Schrigner Until modern times it was an established cultural practice for men and women to seek the guidance of God daily in their lives. People also had a sincere desire generally to go out and do what they perceived to be God's good will. This did not mean that everyone saw God's will. Nor, or course, did everyone make decisions affecting others out of a pure spiritual fervor and love of God. Indeed, the most pervasive pain and suffering among people century after century has been from religious persecution. In the Holy Roman Empire of the Middle Ages persecution accelerated with radical intensity in the Albigensian Crusades of the 12th and 13th Centuries in particular, where Cathars particularly, and indeed some Jews and others, as well, were slaughtered or burned to death for heresy until their influence was driven underground. Whatever the Cathars had come to believe as a group, those doctrines that were based upon principles that applied to everyone equally elicited the respect of nobles and commmoners alike, and the roots of their influence for over a hundred years were deep.

43. John Dee And The English Calendar: Science, Religion And Empire
This paper deals with the English rejection of the Gregorian calendar in 1583 and john Dee’s proposal for calendar reform, seeking to set this episode in its cultural, political and intellectual context.

John Dee and the English Calendar:
Science, Religion and Empire by Dr Robert Poole

Preface
This paper deals with the English rejection of the Gregorian calendar in 1583, seeking to set this episode in its cultural, political and intellectual context. It concentrates particularly upon the work of John Dee, whose treatise of advice to the queen on the calendar reform is almost the only one of his major writings which has not (as far as I am aware) been studied in any depth in published writings. I argue that Dee's calendar treatise offers important insights into his natural philosophy and provides the keystone of his vision of empire. A version of this paper was presented on 29 February 1996 to the history seminar at the University of York, and I am grateful for the comments received there. It is now a draft section of a book for UCL Press provisionally entitled Time's Alteration: Calendar Reform in Early Modern England , which will deal with the episode more fully. I will be pleased to receive comments and references of every kind.

English mathematician, alchemist , and astrologer who was a favorite of Elizabeth I, for whom he did both scientific and astrological studies.
The angelic channeler John Dee believed that specially constructed mirrors could draw magical power from the sun and transmit messages and objects to distant stars and other worlds. When Shakespeare wrote The Tempest , he almost certainly modeled Prospero on Dr. John Dee, the greatest English magus of the Elizabethan era. Scientist, secret agent, geographer, antiquarian, court astrologer, Dee was the quintessential Renaissance man. With the largest library in England, he typified the hermetic pattern of information addiction, and his interests ranged from Euclid to navigation to Raymon Lull to mechanical toys, particularly machines which could simulate bird calls. As a secret agent of Elizabeth's court (his code name was 007), according to Richard Deacon, Dee maintained a network of informants on the continent and collected a great deal of data concerning Spanish threats to England and discoveries in the New World.

According to KNAC.com, attendees at last nights' Los Angeles-area edition of Ozzfest at the Hyundai Pavillion at Glen Helen Regional Park were treated to an on-stage spat between Iron Maiden and Sharon Osbourne.
During Iron Maiden's set there were problems clearly visible to the fans. According to a witness, "at least 3 dozen eggs" were thrown at the band during their first one or two songs. Bruce Dickinson was very vocal and used several expletives directed at the person(s) in the audience who were able to "sneak" the eggs into the event. He made a comment that the egg throwing and inconsideration was done by an Ozzy Osbourne fan and "not A Black Sabbath fan." Dickinson said the band would continue playing after drummer Nikko McBrain cleaned up his drum kit.
After the egging there were three power outages, each lasting 3-5 minutes. One song, where the power was cut half-way through, was finished in its entirety. The other two songs were not.

All other rights are retained by the author. Introduction This book is part of the record of an extended magickal working involving the Tablet of Earth from John Dee's Enochian magickal system. This section presents the results of a series of invocations of the Seniors from that Tablet. The record is complete and is presented exactly as it was recorded at the time of the invocations, without editing. The invoking names of the Seniors are derived from the Great Central Cross of the Tablet by reading outwards horizontally and vertically from the two centermost squares of the Tablet. In the theory of the Enochian system, they represent the forces of the planets within the element, and are considered to be Briatic in nature. With the Elemental King, who represents the Sun and is a link between the Briatic and the Yetziratic levels of the Tablet, they bind together all the forces within the Tablet. Additionally, the Seniors are said to provide knowledge specifically concerning "human affairs", and the present record confirms that in a broad sense.

COUP 2K
By John Dee
It was the Republicans who first bandied the term "coup d'etat" to describe the 2000 presidential election. Since then, many have turned the tables and labeled Bush's victory a coup. But how much of this is merely political rhetoric? John Dee writes that much of what happened matches historical examples of CIA election rigging and overthrows...and a respected coup "manual" authored by a one-time advisor to President Reagan. next

51. Dr Faustus - Faust Legend
Argument for locating the origins of the character of Doctor Faust in the figures of Doctor john dee and Cornelius Agrippa.
http://www.hants.org.uk/ssa/faustus/faust.htm
The Origins of Dr. John Faustus
Dr. John Dee JOHANN FAUST Cornelius Agrippa The name 'Faust' has become deeply rooted in European mythology as the name of a man who sold his soul to the devil in return for eartly power and riches. The Faust legend has been embellished and retold in many formats but its origin appears to be centred around a man who called himself Dr. Johann Faust, living in Heidelberg and employed as a calendar-maker during the early sixteenth century. On August 20, 1507, the learned physicist Johannes Tritheim wrote to his colleague Johannes Virdung, a professor of astrology at the University of Heidelberg, about this Dr. Johann Faust: 'The man of whom you wroute me, who has presumed to call himself the prince of necromancers, is a vagabond, a babbler and a rogue.' The official municipal records of the city of Ingolstadt for June 17, 1528, also contained a short reference to the unsavory character: 'A certain man who called himself Dr. Johann Faust of Heidelberg was told to spend his penny elsewhere, and he pledged himself not to take vengenge on or to make fools of the authorities for this order.' The numerous stories which surrounded the life of Johann Faust were assembled after his death into a 'biography' which was published in Frankfurt in 1587. The book was translated into English and became an immediate success under the title:

Affiliation: Anglican
Dee was always viewed, frequently with dread, as a conjurer. During the reign of Mary he was under suspicion of heresy. His angel-magic was not all that different from the position of Bruno. In the 80s in Prague he was not far from condemnation by the Catholic Church. Nevertheless I am not aware that questions were ever raised in England about his orthodoxy after the accession of Elizabeth (and thus I will not list heterodoxy),
