Coulomb, Charles Augustin de (1736-1806), französischer Physiker, forschte auf den Gebieten des Magnetismus, der Reibung und der Elektrizität. 1777 erfand Coulomb die Torsionswaage zur Messung von magnetischer und elektrischer Anziehungskraft. Mit Hilfe dieser Erfindung konnte er die Wechselwirkung zwischen elektrischen Ladungen untersuchen und das später so genannte Coulombsche Gesetz formulieren. 1779 veröffentlichte Coulomb die Abhandlung Théorie des machines simples, eine Analyse über die Reibung in Maschinen. Coulomb war ferner an der Entwicklung des metrischen Systems der Maße und Gewichte beteiligt. Die Einheit für die elektrische Ladungsmenge, das Coulomb, wurde nach ihm benannt. Charles Augustin Coulomb At this stage in his education there was a crisis for Coulomb. Despite his father's good standing, he had made unsuccessful financial speculations, had lost all his money and moved from Paris to Montpellier. Coulomb's mother remained in Paris but Coulomb had a disagreement with her over the direction his career should take so he left Paris and went to Montpellier to live with his father. At this stage Coulomb's interests were mainly in mathematics and astronomy and while in Montpellier he joined the Society of Sciences there in March 1757 and read several papers on these topics to the Society. Camus had been appointed as examiner for artillery schools in 1755 and it was his that Coulomb studied for several months. In 1758 Coulomb took the examinations set by Camus Bossut Borda Coulomb was put in charge of the building of the new Fort Bourbon and this task occupied him until June 1772. It was a period during which he showed the practical side of his engineering skills which were needed to organise the construction, but his experiences would play a major role in the later theoretical memoirs he wrote on mechanics. As far as Coulomb's health was concerned these were difficult years and the illnesses which he suffered while on Martinique left him in poor health for the rest of his life.

THE COULOMB CONSPIRACY AGAINST THEOSOPHY
When the 1884 visit to Europe was arranged, the Adyar headquarters was left in charge of a Council which included several disturbing elements, but only one, a Frenchman named Coulomb, was contemplating treachery, and of course he was not suspected by the other members. But he and his English wife a "weird, witch-like creature" as Dr. Hartmann calls her soon found an opportunity of preparing a cunning scheme to ruin H.P.B.'s reputation and destroy the Society. Fortunately, as will be shown, the Fates worked against them before it was consummated. Though H.P.B. and Olcott suspected no special danger to the Society in India when they left, the Masters were perfectly aware of the coming crisis, for when Olcott and Mohini were alone in France in a compartment of a train on their way from Paris to London on April 5, 1884, a letter from K.H. dropped from the roof warning Olcott of the plot that was hatching at Adyar, and telling him not to be discouraged, however threatening it might appear. One sentence reads: You have harboured a traitor and an enemy under your roof for years, and the missionary party are more than ready to avail of any help she may be induced to give. A regular conspiracy is on foot. She is maddened by the appearance of Mr. Lane Fox and the powers you have given to the Board of Control.

French physicist who performed experiments with a torsion balance, which he invented independently of Priestley . His investigations led him to suggest that there were two "fluids" of electricity and two of magnetism. He showed both forces were inverse square, and stated that they were unconnected separate phenomena. The inverse square of electricity has come to be known as Coulomb's law although it had been previously expounded by John Robinson Priestley Robinson (John)

Coulomb's Law
Coulomb is perhaps most famous for the law of physics bearing his name. Coulomb's law ( Equation 1 ) describes the relationship between force, charge and distance. In 1785, Coulomb published a paper describing the torsion balance . This paper would become the first of a series of seven papers that Coulomb would have published on the topics of magnetism and electricity. The torsion balance allowed Coulomb to make more precise measurements of force than anyone prior to that time. Several other researchers, including Henry Cavendish, Joseph Priestly, and Charles Stanhope were similar work related to electrostatics. In fact, independently Henry Cavendish had determined experimentally the electric force was an inverse square law around the same time. However Cavendish never published his results or experiments, so it was not until 1879 that this fact was discovered by James Maxwell. While Priestly's work with electrical repulsion served as the basis for Coulomb's research. Equation 1 -Coulomb's Law
Coulomb's law says the electrical force between two charges (q ) and (q ) is proportional to the product of the two charges divided by the distance between the two charges squared (see Equation 1 above). Potvrzuje to v½sledek velkoobchodn­ aukce na dod¡vky elektřiny pro rok 2006, kter½ zveřejnila energetick¡ společnost ČEZ. Ta na z¡kladě kontraktů ozn¡mila, že ceny velkoobchodn­, silov© elektřiny se zvednou o 14,3 procenta. Dom¡cnosti zaplat­ za elektřinu až o 10 procent v­ce. Přesn½ ºdaj ale zveřejn­ Energetick½ regulačn­ ºÅ™ad koncem listopadu. M­stopředseda ERš a ředitel sekce regulace Blahoslav Němeček přitom nepředpokl¡d¡, že by doÅ¡lo ke zv½Å¡en­ cen doprovodn½ch služeb. V½razněji zdraž­ už v letoÅ¡n­m posledn­m čtvrtlet­ plyn. Premi©r Jiř­ Paroubek ned¡vno ozn¡mil, že zv½Å¡en­ bude v rozmez­ 16 až 18 procent. Velkoobchodn­ aukce ČEZ tak© potvrdila rostouc­ popt¡vku po elektřině. Celkov½ prodej elektřiny vyroben© skupinou ČEZ vzrostl o 1,6 terrawatthodiny, tedy o 4,1 procenta oproti loňsk©mu roku.
