Frank Cole 's parents were Frances Maria Pond and Otis Cole who came from a family which had been living in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, since the 17 th century. Otis Cole was a farmer, a dealer in lumber having an involvement in manufacturing, who also had an interest in mathematics. After Frank graduated from High School in Marlboro, Massachusetts, he was privately tutored before he entered Harvard University in 1878. There his ability was recognised at once and he was awarded scholarships which not only helped him while studying for his A.B., awarded in 1882, but also a Parker Travelling Fellowship which paid for him to visit Leipzig during 1883-85 when he studied under Klein . The period spent with Klein was very profitable despite Klein Cole returned to Harvard and wrote a thesis A Contribution to the Theory of the General Equation of the Sixth Degree which, as the title indicates, studied equations of degree 6. Winners of the Frank Nelson Cole Prize of the AMS
The Frank Nelson Cole Prize in Algebra and the Frank Nelson Cole Prize in Number Theory were founded in honour of Professor Frank Nelson Cole on the occasion of his retirement as secretary of the American Mathematical Society after twenty-five years of service and as editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society for twenty-one years. The original fund was donated by Professor Cole from money presented to him on his retirement, was augmented by contributions from members of the Society, and was later doubled by his son, Charles A Cole. The present endowment is $4,000. The prizes are awarded at two different five-year intervals for contributions to algebra and the theory of numbers, respectively, under restrictions similar to those for the Prize. Leonard E Dickson

James Gang James Gang, Stagecoach Robberies,Quantrills Raiders, Cole Younger James Gang James Gang Originally formed around 1866, with its leaders being, Frank James Jesse James , and Cole Younger. From 1866 to 1881, the James Gang knew a fairly active life. James Gang members averaged around twelve men, formerly members of Quantrills Guerillas James Gang carried out stagecoach robberies with elaborate escape routes and knew the area, the lawmen and the communities. The Missouri southern sympathizers regularly sheltered from the long arm of the law the James Gang. It is thought because of there affiliation with Quantrills Guerillas Wearing long prairie duster coats, the James Gang would slowly arrive to the town of choice. Drifting in by ones and twos casually looking up and down the street. When all the scouting was done and the time was right they would ad more bank robberies to there list of accomplishments Banks were a specialty of the James Gang but they clearly loved stagecoach robberies and train robberies as well. Over the course of time, the James Gang was accredited with at least 10 bank robberies

http://www.rogallery.com/Cole_Kevin/Cole-bio.htm
Kevin E. Cole (1960 - ) Artist Statement
"When I turned eighteen years old, my grandfather stressed the importance of voting by taking me to a tree where he was told that African-Americans were lynched by their neckties on their way to vote. The experience left a profound impression in my mind." -Kevin E. Cole, 1990
Since 1992, my work has evolved from the use of the necktie as an icon, motif, and symbol of power. The works incorporate patterns and textures from traditional African cloths such as the Kente and Adinkra cloths, cloths that speak to human conditions and behaviors.
Throughout all of my work, I continue to investigate the existence of polyrhythmic space and overlapping planes, the raw emotional power of color and texture. In these recent works I have includes scarf shapes that represent the struggles of women. These shapes weave and intertwine around linear painted rods. The rods for me, symbolize strength. After September 11, 2001 I started working on aluminum and (tar) roofing paper as a protest against this American tragedy.
In some of the recent small works I utilize the ends of the ties and scarf shapes intergraded with abstract pattern and various kinds of textures. Some critics say these pieces remind them of picket fences which are prevalent in the south with a strong connection to southern plantations.
