His most important paper, on the mechanical theory of heat, published in , first stated the basic ideas of the second law of thermodynamics . In he introduced the concept of entropy Clausius graduated from the University of Berlin in , and got his doctorate from the University of Halle in . He then taught in Berlin, Z¼rich W¼rzburg , and Bonn In Clausius organized an ambulance corps in the Franco-Prussian War . He was wounded in battle, leaving him with a lasting disability. He was awarded the Iron Cross for his services. His wife, Adelheid Rimpham, died in childbirth in , leaving him to raise their six children. He continued to teach, but had less time for research thereafter. Clausius crater on the Moon was named in his honor. Clausius, Rudolf (1822-1888) Elaborado por: Alcenir Tarcisío Barbarini Pesquisador alemão nascido em Köslin (agora Koszalin, Polônia), em 2 de janeiro de 1822 e falecido em Bonn, Alemanha, em 24 de agosto de 1888, foi considerado por Maxwell como fundador de uma nova ciência. Depois de receber sua educação básica em uma pequena escola particular que seu pai tinha estabelecido e onde servia como pastor e diretor, Clausius continuou seus estudos na Stettin Gymnasium antes de entrar na Universidade de Berlim em 1840. Embora extremamente encantado com as palestras de Leopold von Ranke, ele iniciou uma carreira em matemática e fisica, completando o seu doutorado em filosofia em Halle, em 1847. Between 1885 and 1889, he used spark discharges to produce electromagnetic waves. Heinrich Rudolf Hertz was born on 22 February, 1857, in Hamburg. His father Dr. jur. Gustav Ferdinand Hertz was Jewish, who had converted to Christianity. He was an advocate in Hamburg, then Oberlandsgerichtsrat Realschule , Heinrich prepared himself, by private study, for the Johanneum school at which in 1875, after only a year of studying, he passed his school-leaving and university entrance exam Abitur (GCE A-levels), the best in his class. He showed an early interest in the natural sciences, and a practical skill in building physics equipment in the family workshop. He was also an enthusiastic linguist, learning Arabic and Sanskrit.
