Collected Works in Mathematics and Statistics
This is a list of Mathematics and Statistics collected works that can be found at Dalhousie University and at other Halifax universities. The vast majority of these works are located in the Killam Library on the Dalhousie campus. A guide to other locations is given at the end of this list. If a title is owned by both Dalhousie and another university, only the Dalhousie site is listed. For all locations, and for full bibliographic details, see the NOVANET library catalogue This list was compiled, and the collection is being enlarged, with the invaluable help of the Bibliography of Collected Works maintained by the Cornell University Mathematics Library. The thumbnail sketches of mathematicians were taken from the MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive at the University of St. Andrews. For correction, comments, or questions, write to Karl Dilcher ( dilcher@mscs.dal.ca You can scroll through this list, or jump to the beginning of the letter:

Pathik Guha reports from Trieste, Italy It’s a cloudy October morning at the Milan airport. The bus to ferry passengers to the aircraft for Alitalia’s flight 1339 to Trieste is slowly getting filled up. “It seems everybody is going to the ICTP,” says Panamalai Ramrao Parthasarathy, mathematics professor at the IIT-Madras, looking at the lot that’s boarding the bus. “Maybe you’re right,” comments the gentleman sitting next to him, “I’m also going there. Let me introduce myself. I’m Ghulam Murtaza from the Government College, Lahore.” Prof. Murtaza is an authority on the life and works of Abdus Salam, the Pakistani scientist who shared the 1979 Nobel prize in physics along with Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg. As the bus trundles towards the aircraft, the two professors from India and Pakistan engage themselves in a discussion on Salam’s early life. “Do you know that Salam’s first published paper was on a problem set by your Srinivasa Ramanujan?” Prof. Murtaza asks. “Prof. Sarvadaman Chowla, Salam’s teacher at the Lahore College, once described the problem, daring his students to solve it. A few days later Salam came back with a solution, and later he wrote a paper on that.”

With its unique Tuscan sandstone architecture and its location nestled under the Flatiron rock formations of Boulder, the campus is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the United States.
CU has produced a number of astronauts, Nobel Prize laureates, and respected academics, but also has a reputation as a party school. In 2003, the Princeton Review awarded it as the top party school in the nation (USA), out of 351 entrants. CU is home of the Alferd Packer Grill, supposedly the only campus eatery in America named for a convicted cannibal.
