Ha dato anche importanti contribuiti alla teoria delle funzioni di variabile complessa e alla teoria delle equazioni differenziali. La sistematicit  e il livello di questi suoi lavori lo collocano tra i padri dell'Analisi matematica. A Cauchy si devono alcuni dei primi studi sui gruppo di permutazioni e per questi viene considerato anche uno dei fondatori della teoria dei gruppi. Egli ottenne anche importanti risultati nella teoria dei numeri. Ottenne inoltre dei notevoli risultati nella teoria degli errori. In astronomia ottenne una trattazione pi¹ semplice del moto dell'asteroide Pallade. Infine va ricordata una sua impostazione dell'ottica favorevole alla teoria ondulatoria, successivamente per² risultata fisicamente insoddisfacente. Cauchy ¨ stato un autore molto prolifico: la raccolta di tutte le sue opere ha richiesto 27 volumi e portano il suo nome vari enti matematici, ad es. successione di Cauchy, e numerosi teoremi dell'analisi. Welcome page The World Great Mathematicians Cauchy pioneered the study of analysis and the theory of permutation groups. He also researched in convergence and divergence of infinite series, differential equations, determinants, probability and mathematical physics. Cauchy stated as a military engineer and in 1810 went to Cherbourg to work on Napoleon's English invasion fleet. In 1813 he returned to Paris and, after persuasion from Lagrange and Laplace, devoted himself to mathematics. He pioneered the study of analysis and the theory of substitution groups (now called permutation groups). Cauchy proved in 1811 that the angles of a convex polyhedron are determined by its faces. In 1814 he published the memoir on definite integrals that became the basis of the theory of complex functions. His other contributions include researches in convergence and divergence of infinite series, differential equations, determinants, probability and mathematical physics. Numerous terms in mathematics bear his name:- the Cauchy integral theorem, in the theory of complex functions; the Cauchy-Kovalevskaya existence theorem for the solution of partial differential equations; the Cauchy-Riemann equations and Cauchy sequences.

Randy Rausch Augustin Louis Cauchy Augustin Louis Cauchy made many important contributions to mathematics and was also quite a successful poet. He was a French mathematician born in Paris and educated at the École Polytechnique. At the same time, Cauchy was nominated professor at the École Polytechnique, the University of Paris, and the Collège de France. In 1848, Augustin was made professor of mathematical astronomy at the University of Paris. Augustin Louis Cauchy contributed the first extensive thoery of complex numbers. He founded fundamental theorems on complex functions and published the first complete dissertation on determinants. Cauchy concurred the existence of recurrent elliptic functions, gave the first incentive to the theory of functions, and laid the foundation for the modern treatment of the convergence of infinite series. He did extensive work in the field of calculus, he invented the notion of continuity, gave the first adequate definition of the definite integral as a limit of sums, and defined improper integrals. Cauchy invented the calculus of residues, and in general was one of the leaders of the 19 th century in inspiring vivacity into analysis. He also gave his attention to the propagation of light and the theory of elasticity.
