Walter utrácel jeho èasné školní roky ( Tìlocvièna ) u Graudentz (nyní Grudziadz, Polsko) kde jeho studia se zamìøila na klasickou literaturu, humanitní obory a pøírodní vìdu. Jako mladý muž v Prusku, Hermann vyjádøil jeho touhu stát se básníkem. V 1883, on promoval nejprve v jeho tøídit ( Abitur ) u tìlocvièny Graudenz, a následovnì šel do univerzit Curychu, Berlín a Graz, studovat fyziku a matematiku. Walther Hermann Nernst navštívil pøednášky Ludwig Boltzmann a vykonával experimentální studia spolu s Albertem von Ettingshausen. U Graz Nernst vydával práci s von Ettinghausen v 1886 který vytvoøil èásti experimentálního založení moderní elektronické teorie kovù (Nernst-Ettingshausen úèinek: Když dirigent nebo polovodiè je vystaven k teplotnímu spádu a k magnetickému poli kolmému k teplotnímu spádu, elektrické pole vyvstává kolmý k jak teplotnímu spádu tak magnetickému poli.). LA ROUE A MIROIRS DE LAZARE WEILLER (1889) ET SES APPLICATIONS A L'EPOQUE DE LA TELEVISION MECANIQUE (1906-1932) Lazare Weiller (1858-1928) La roue à miroirs, proposé en 1889 par Lazare Weiller constitue, à l'égal du disque de Nipkow (1884), une innovation essentielle, un système de balayage des images qui allait permettre l'essor de la télévision mécanique, avant l'arrivée, dans les années 1930 des systèmes électroniques. L'unique contribution de Weiller à l'histoire de la télévision tient en un seil article, "De la vision à distance par l'électricité" Le Génie civil, T.XV, 1889. Sa biographie , toujours méconnue des historiens de la télévision, mérite cependant d'être détaillée : inventeur, Weiller fut aussi un grand industriel, un homme politique influent et un essayiste de renom. Une proposition théorique Weiller part du constat du phénomène de la persistance rétinienne et du fait que l'oeil n'a pas besoin pour reconnaître un objet de percevoir l'ensemble des rayons de lumière diffusés par celui-ci : un modèle lui suffit pour identifier l'image, comme l'illustrent les principes de la mosaïque, de la gravure et de la tapisserie. Il est intéressant de constater que Weiller utilise l'exemple du modèle de la tapisserie des Gobelins huit ans avant l'inventeur polonais Jan Szczepanik , propose en 1897 un Telekstrokop issu de ses trvauax sur la transmission de modèles pour les tapisseries Jacquard.
