The Institute has nation-wide character with the headquarters in Warsaw, branches in Cracow, Gdañsk, Katowice, £ódŸ, Poznañ, Toruñ and Wroc³aw and a brand new conference centre in Bêdlewo (near Poznañ). In 1972 the Stefan Banach Centre was established as a part of the Institute. The Centre hosts workshops and conferences, schools and workgroups with participation of both young mathematicians and specialists. During the first 20 years of its existence under the leadership of Professor Czes³aw Olech the Centre has gained world-wide recognition as a centre of collaboration of mathematicians from all over the world. Since 1993 the Centre works in co-operation with the European Mathematical Society . Special emphasis is laid on the interaction of different fields of mathematics. The new international scientific council of the Centre is led by Prof. Friedrich Hirzebruch. Since 1976 over 50 volumes of the Banach Centre Publications have been published.

Wtedy doktor Zonn zdecydowa³ prowadziæ je w swoim pokoiku. Pokój by³ d³ugi i w±ski.
