BRAHMAGUPTA(ca.628) and BHASKARA(1114-ca.1185)
Brahmagupta was the most prominent Hindu mathematician of the seventh century. He lived and worked in the astronomical center of Ujjain, in central India. In 628, he wrote his Brahma-sphuta-sidd'hanta ("the revised system of Brahma"), a work on astronomy of twenty-one chapters, of which Chapters 12 and 18 deal with mathematics. Mahavira, who floufished about 850, was from Mysore in southern India and Brahmagrpta's city of Ujjain. His work, Siddhanta Siromani ("diadem of an astronomical system"), was written in 1150 and shows little advancement over the work of Brahmagupta of more than 500 years earlier. The important mathematical parts of Bhaskara's workare the Liavati ("the beautiful") and Vijagania ("seed arithmetic"), which deal with arithmetic and algebra, respectively. The mathematical parts of Brahmagupta's and Bhaskara's works were translated into English in 1817 by H.T.Colebrooke. the Surya Siddhanta was translated by E.Burgess in 1860, and Mahavira's work was published in 1912 by M.Rangacarya.

Indian Mathematician
Also known as Bhaskara the Learned form Bidar, India, Bhaskara was the leading mathematician of the 12th century. He wrote the first work with systematic use of the decimal number system. Bhaskara developed rules for equations to calculate trigonometry, and he used letters to represent unknown quantities, much as in modern algebra. As astronomer he popularized the astronomical knowledge of his time. www link :

Dept. of Electrical Engineering

University of Southern California

I am a graduate student pursuing PhD in Electrical Engineering , at the University of Southern California , since Spring 2003. I work as a graduate research assistant with Dr.Ahmed Helmy and Dr. Sandeep Gupta , for the Dependable Protocols Project I completed my masters (with thesis) from EE-Systems, USC in the Fall 2002. During my masters program, I worked as a graduate research assistant with Dr.Ahmed Helmy , for the STRESS project. For my masters thesis, I worked on the Design and Performance Analysis of Multicast based Micro Mobility protocol under the guidance of Prof Ahmed Helmy . My work involved improving the design of the initially proposed Multicast based Mobility protocol , by modeling the protocol using STRESS semantics. I also compared its performance with the other micro-mobility protocols using ns-2 Before joining this group, I briefly worked with Dr.Daniel Lee

Bhaskara 1 [ISRO] Bhaskara was launched as part of the satellite-for-earth-observations (SEO) program, and was placed in orbit by a Soviet Kosmos-3M launch vehicle launched from Kapostn Yar. The main objectives were to conduct earth observation experiments for applications related to hydrology, forestry, and geology using a two-band TV camera system, and to conduct ocean-surface studies using a two-frequency satellite microwave radiometer (SAMIR) system. Secondary objectives were to test engineering and data processing systems, to collect limited meteorological data from remote platforms, and to conduct scientific investigations in X-ray astronomy. Bhaskara was a 26-faced quasi-spherical polyhedron. It had a height of 1.66 m, and a diameter of 1.55 m. Named after the two "Bhaskaracharyas," astronomer-mathematicians of ancient India.
