Home I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Hiram Baker, but I believe he is somehow closely related to my ancestor Jacob Baker Hiram Baker was born ca 1803/04 in Ashe Co, NC . I have no direct proof that he is a son of Jacob Baker , but various bits of circumstantial evidence seem to indicate it. Hiram could be a son of Thomas Baker instead, and in some ways he fits better with Thomas. More research is needed to properly sort this out, so for now I can't say who his parents are with any authority. Jacob Baker did have a son about Hiram's age with him on the 1810 and 1820 census in Ashe Co, NC, and Hiram Baker later moved to Macon Co, NC and was near the Fouts family there (Jacob Baker's suspected daughter Mary Margaret married Jacob Fouts, and later moved to Macon Co, NC). Hiram Baker married Nancy - just before 1830 in Ashe Co, NC. George Windes (a descendant of Hiram and Nancy) thinks Nancy's maiden name may have been Ray. He may be correct, as Ray was a well known name in Ashe County, and that family was associated with some of the other Baker's there.
