George Atwood
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama - October 17th, 1920
George Manley Atwood has packed a lifetime into the music profession in every style & also in the business sense. He received a Purple Heart during his service in the Navy during World War II, and was also well known in Lubbock for his work at KLLL Radio and appearing on television as Go-Ee The Clown. Having worked with Gene Krupa, The Dorsey Brothers, Roy Orbison, Eddy Arnold, and Buddy Knox, he was for years a session musician at Norman Petty Studios. In late 1958, he played bass on Buddy's recordings of "Heartbeat", "Love's Made A Fool Of You" and "Wishing".
George recalls the last time he saw Buddy: "December 28th, 1958 had turned out to be a really nice day after the big snow storm over New Years Eve. I had just finished lunch when the phone rang. It was Buddy Holly. He asked me if I could come down to KLLL radio station for a while as he wanted to talk to me. When I arrived at the studio there were several other people there I knew, some I didn't. Waylon Jennings, Hi-Pockets Duncan, & The Corbin Brothers. Buddy came over & said "let's get a cup of coffee". We went across the street to the old Walgreen drug store, sat for a minute then Buddy said "I'm going to build a recording studio here in Lubbock & I want you to be a part of it".

Mom always baked many loaves of bread each week.  I don't remember eating store bought bread until my mid teens.  I can remember her saying at times, when she got too much liquid in the dough, "Darn, I drowned the miller!"  You know, I never saw her take that miller out,  but the bread was so delicious that you never thought about it again!  She was an excellent cook, a trait that was passed to each of the Richardson girls.  Our home always smelled like hot baked bread, cookies and cake, and in the fall the aroma of different kinds of pickles, relish, bread and butter pickles, etc., always welcomed us home from school.

George Atwood Royal Society Atwood was a very popular lecturer at Cambridge, giving many demonstrations in his lectures. He published details of his lecture course with descriptions of his demonstrations in 1776 [2]:- He demonstrated elementary mechanics and hydrostatics with pulleys, pendulums, and air-pumps, as well as electricity, magnetism, and optics, including Leonhard Euler 's principles of achromatic lenses. He also taught astronomy, mentioning recent surveys of the earth's density by the mathematician Charles Hutton and the astronomer royal Nevil Maskelyne , plus Maskelyne 's favoured lunar method for longitude. William Pitt, British prime minister (1783-1801, 1804-06), was one of the many students who attended Atwood's popular lectures and later, when Pitt had achieved high office, he employed Atwood in the Treasury. However this was still some way into the future when Atwood gave up his position as tutor at Cambridge in 1779 and tried unsuccessfully to obtain a position with the board of longitude. As part of his bid to obtain a position as secretary with the board he sent the details of his Cambridge courses to Sir Joseph Banks, president of the Royal Society . In the summer of 1781 Atwood sent the
