SENSEI ROSS BRIGGS Goju-Shorei Karate Ross Briggs began his martial training at the age of nine, studying Judo at the local YMCA. In 1970 he started Tae Kwon Do training under his older brother Tom Briggs, a Reno Police officer who had studied in Korea. In 1971, Ross met and began training with Sensei (now Grandmaster) Alexander Archie, a collaboration that continues to this day. While in the U.S. Army, Ross created and taught the Defensive Tactics Training Program to the 82nd Airborne Military Police Company, where rose to the rank of Sergeant. Ross has also trained and has been graded 3 rd Dan Tae Kwon Do, under master Byong Yu, and 2nd Dan in Ju Jitsu. While continuing his own Martial Enlightenment, Ross assists Master Archie, Master Joe Walker, and Sensei Gina Barker in classes taught to law enforcement personnel at POST training in Carson City, Nevada. He also teaches separate Karate and Woman's Self-defense classes at Truckee Meadows Community College, as well as children and adult Karate classes at the Northeast Community Center in Reno. Ross is married, with five children and three grandchildren.
