A general note on the dating of this material: There is little doubt that most of this material dates from 1945-55, i.e. from Prior's first employment at Canterbury University College till he went to Oxford in 1955. Combining this with degree of formality, references etc. of the item in question, it is possible to stipulate e.g. 45-50, 50-55 etc. as the likely period of writing. The items marked 'Logic Notes' are stipulated as 'Ca. 1953-54'. In theory, they might also be from Prior's last period at Canterbury University College (1957-58). On the other hand, the most likely supposition is that they are closely related to the writing of Formal Logic , and hence that they were made around 1953 (see [ Kenny 1970 , pp. 334-335], and Items from a dictionary of formal logic /box 6.). Moreover, the latest references in these notes are from late 1953 (except for note II, whose latest reference is from 1949). It can be added that Mary Prior recalls that Arthur Prior gave out a fairly complete set of logic notes to his students in 1946-47, shortly after having been employed at Canterbury University College. Those few notes which contain no post-47 references could be identical with or reworkings of those 46-47 notes, but the fairly extensive use of polish notation in almost all of them makes this rather unlikely. NOTE: According to the present overview in the Bodleian list of the contents of the boxes: Handouts for students.

Philosophy Among the Artistae: A Late-Medieval Picture of the Limits of Rational Inquiry
It is a commonplace in the historiography of medieval philosophy that theology represents philosophy's culmination in the later Middle Ages, and specifically, that it is in the work of theologians and theologically-trained Arts Masters that we find philosophy in its purest and most advanced form. By comparison, the philosophy produced by thinkers who worked exclusively or primarily in the Faculty of Arts is seen as inferior by which is usually meant that it is shallow, unsophisticated, immature, and driven by disparate curricular and pedagogical concerns rather than by the more single-minded commitment to rationally articulate that sacred doctrine which, as Aquinas says, "extends [by virtue of its oneness] to things which belong to different philosophical sciences." The source or sources of this commonplace are not easy to trace, and much less interesting, I think, than its historiographical effects. But it was brought into play early in this century by Konstanty Michalski, who wrote in 1923 that "the thought of philosophers of the Middle Ages is expressed above all in commentaries on the Sentences , especially in the first book, where one must take a position with regard to the most difficult problems in the domains of metaphysics and the theory of knowledge."

38. Palais Auersperg, Vienna
It was here, for example, that a granddaughter of King Gustav Adolf of Swedenwas wed to King albert of saxony. And three years later, in October 1856,
http://www.classictic.com/venues/11.html
In the house of the Rofranos, money was of no object. Everything was of the highest quality – especially the music. In fact, the palace itself was, to quote one of its most famous visitors, “one of the most beautiful chords in the symphony ‘Vienna’”. Since this visitor was no other than the great Robert Stolz, it must be admitted that this opinion came from a competent judge. Music was always the invisible hub of the palace, long before Richard Strauss wrote his opera with a Rofrano as the hero. In 1760, for example, the imperial field marshal Prince Joseph Friedrich Wilhelm of Saxony-Hildburghausen moved in as a tenant. He was a knowledgeable music lover of great sensibility and infallible good taste, and engaged no less a personage than Christoph Willibald Gluck as the musical director of his famous house concerts. This was definitely a highlight in the musical history of the palace, but by no means the only one. In March of 1786, it was the venue of a private performance of Mozart’s opera “Idomeneo”. The ensemble was comprised exclusively of members of Vienna’s high society, and included such famous names as Baron Pilini and Count Hatzfeld. Mozart, who revised the vocal parts to “suit the vocal chords” of his noble performers, composed a special “scena con rondo” with violin solo for this occasion. Another famous figure of the Austrian nobility also took part in an amateur performance in this building: Crown Prince Rudolf, four years before his tragic end. At that time the palace had long since been purchased by Prince Auersperg, whose name it still bears today. The street on which it is located, too, is called Auerspergstrasse, in honour of Prince Adolf Auersperg, who was Prime Minister of Austria for eight years.
