A natolia Anatolia is that region lying to the south of the Black Sea, to the east of the Aegean Sea, north of the eastern Mediterranean Sea and, inland, the Fertile Crescent, and west of the Caucasus-Azerbaijani districts. A very roughly hewn upland region for the most part, it has been both a home and a highway for a bewildering variety of peoples for as long as there have been humans. Presently this covers: Akhlat Amida Antioch Aram-Nahara'im ... Armenia (Lesser), Arzawa Arzinjan Atarneus Aydin ... Caesaria (Kayseri), Cappadocia Caria Cilicia (incl. ANATOLIA (General Survey) The following list will give a brief overview of Anatolian chronology from the earliest times to the present. It does not pretend to be complete in any sense; Anatolia is a very large area, and though there have been times, like the present, when it has been completely unified, there have also been many times when fragmented local nations were the rule. In such instances, I have either listed the most significant among local conditions, or simply indicated a general period of local conditions. Even during times of union with large Empires, very often outlying districts were partially or completely autonomous; read Xenophon's

A research project on the Indonesian ulama gave me the opportunity to visit pesantren in various parts of the Archipelago and put together a sizeable collection of books used in and around the pesantren, the so-called kitab kuning . Taken together, this collection offers a clear overview of the texts used in Indonesian pesantren and madrasah , a century after L.W.C. van den Berg’s pioneering study of the Javanese (and Madurese) pesantren curriculum (1886). Van den Berg compiled, on the basis of interviews with kyais, a list of the major textbooks studied in the pesantren of his day. He mentioned fifty titles and gave on each some general information and short summaries of the more important ones. Most of these books are still being reprinted and used in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, but many other works have come into use beside them. The present collection contains around nine hundred different titles, most of which are used as textbooks. I shall first make some general observations on these books and on the composition of the collection. In the second part of this article I shall discuss a list of ‘most popular

THE EVENTS OF THE SEVENTH YEAR OF MIGRATION
The Peace Pact of Hudaybiyah relieved the Prophet of worries from the southern part of Makkah and hence a group from amongst the chiefs of Arabia got attracted towards Islam. In the meantime the Prophet seized the opportunity and started correspondence with the rulers of the time the chiefs of the tribes and the religious leaders of the Christians and presented his religion to the nations living during that period. lt was a religion which had by that time gone a step forward from a merely simple belief and had assumed the shape of a universal faith and could bring entire humanity under the banner of monotheism and sublime social and ethical teachings. This was the first step which the Prophet took after nineteen years' conflict with the obstinate Quraysh. And if the internal enemies had not kept him busy in bloody battles he would have invited the distant nations to Islam much earlier. However the cowardly attacks of the Arabs obliged him to spend a major part of his time in the defence of Islam. The letters which the Prophet wrote to the princes kings.

by Muhammad Jamil Ahmad Lahore was historically a Hindu state until its occupation by the Gaznavids. The saints played a vital role in preaching Islam and establishing Muslim rule in the Sub-continent. They convinced people to embrace Islam and change the local cultural patterns through interdiction. Although during the Ghanavids reign many preachers came and settled in Lahore yet the most famous of them all is Hazrat Data Gang Bakhsh, Ali Hujveri. He propagated the religious, spiritual, moral and educational dimensions of Islam in South Asia. His mausoleum (Khanqah) is still serving as a center for learning and spiritual solace for the millions teaming from everywhere. Outside the Bhati Gate, one of the thirteen gates of the walled city of Lahore, to the west, is situated the celebrated mausoleum of the great mystic Saint Hazrat Daata Ganj Bakhsh (the Bestower of Spiritual Treasures). His real name is Syed Ali Mukhdum Hujveri, R.A (Kuniyyat, Abu Al- Hassan) but because of his generosity he was surnamed “Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh”. He was a Hassani Syed i.e. a descendent of Hazrat Ali (R. A). Abdul Muttalib had ten sons. Two of them were Abdullah, the father of Muhammad Mustafa, and Abu Talib, the father of Ali. Abdullah and Abu Talib were the children of the same mother whereas their other brothers were born of the other wives of their father. Ali's mother, Fatima, also belonged to the clan of Hashim. She was the daughter of Asad the son of Hashim. Asad and Abdul Muttalib were brothers. She was thus the first cousin of Abdullah and Abu Talib. Ali's mother, Fatima bint Asad, was the second woman in all Arabia to accept Islam, the first being Khadija. Fatima bint Asad was the foster-mother of Muhammad Mustafa, the Messenger of God. She brought him up as her own son, and in fact, loved him more than her own children, and he called her his mother. Ali's father, Abu Talib, was the Defender of Islam, and he was the Protector and Guardian of Muhammad. He supported Islam and Muhammad consistently, and he was undaunted in the face of opposition and threats from the pagans.

To give an idea of how Islam raised the status of slaves and treated them as human beings instead of brutes of burden (which was their common lot before Islam), the following tradition is of particular interest: One day the Prophet was sitting with Salman, Bilal, 'Ammar, Suhayb, Khabbab [all ex-slaves] and a group of poor Muslims, when some unbelievers passed from there. When they saw these "unimportant" people with the Prophet, they said, "Have you chosen these persons from among your people? Do you want us to follow them? Has Allah bestowed His favour on them, that they have believed, and not us? You should better remove them from you; if you do so, then perhaps we would follow you." The Prophet did not agree to their demand, and Allah sent the following verse in this respect: And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, they desire only His favour; neither are you answerable for any reckoning of theirs, nor are they answerable for any reckoning of yours, so that you should drive them away and thus be of the unjust. And thus do We try some of them by others so that they say: "Are these they upon whom Allah has conferred benefit from among us?" Does not Allah know the grateful? (And when those who believe in our signs come to you, say: "Peace be upon you, your Lord has ordained mercy on Himself") (6:52-54) Salman, Bilal, 'Ammar and their companions say: "When Allah revealed these verses, the Prophet turned towards us, called us to come nearer to him, and said, 'Your lord has ordained mercy on Himself.' Then we used to sit with him, and when he wanted to stand up (and go from there), he did so. Then Allah revealed:-
