Memorial Resolution on Behalf of Abraham Max March 7, 1910 December 17, 2004 Abraham Max, 94, died on December 17, 2004 in Rehovot Israel Professor Max was Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI where he served the department, the school, and the students with dedication and distinction. Professor Max was born and raised in Sheboygan Wisconsin At age 14, his parents, Abe, and his younger brother moved to Israel where he lived for four years. He returned to the United Stated to finish high school and attend college. He earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin During this time, he met and later married his wife, Alice Seltzer Max. After his graduate studies, Professor Max worked for the General Motors Corporation in Detroit and for the Helena Rubinstein Company. In the early 1940s, he and Alice moved to North Dakota , where he taught communications in the Accelerated Specialized Training Program for the Air Force at the University of North Dakota. The scientists of Weill Medical College of Cornell University are engaged in both basic and clinical research in such cutting-edge areas as genetics and gene therapy, neuroscience, structural biology, AIDS, cancer, and psychiatry. Our biomedical investigators are delving ever deeper into the realms of cellular and molecular biology, which hold the secrets to both the normal functioning of the body and the malfunctions that lead to serious medical disorders.
Among other notable accomplishments, Weill Cornell is known for the development of the Pap test, the first kidney transplant and dialysis treatment in New York City, the first human gene therapy trial for cystic fibrosis, the first successful embryo biopsy pregnancy and birth in the United States, and the first gene therapy for Parkinson's Disease as part of a new clinical trial.

Max Abraham March 26 November 16 ) was a German physicist Abraham was born in Danzig, Germany (now Gdańsk in Poland ) to a family of Jewish merchants . He attended the University of Berlin , studying under Max Planck until he graduated in . For the next three years, Abraham worked as Planck's assistant. From to , Abraham worked at G¶ttingen as a privatdozent , an unpaid lecturing position. Abraham developed his theory of the electron in , in which he hypothesized that the electron was a perfect sphere with a charge divided evenly around its surface. Hendrik Lorentz and Albert Einstein developed a different theory in , which would later become more widely accepted; nevertheless, Abraham never gave up believing that his views were correct, since in his eyes they were based on " common sense In Abraham travelled to the United States to accept a position at the University of Illinois , but ended up returning to G¶ttingen after a few months. Karen Ahlborn Crocker is pursuing a J.D. at Boston College Law School. She worked for Hale Dorr's Legal Services Clinic in Jamaica Plain this summer. She and her husband Ben celebrated their son's first birthday in May. Gregory Bedward is working at Venable, Baetjer and Howard in Baltimore Maryland. Geoff Chalmers graduated from SAIS at the Johns Hopkins. He is currently a Microenterprise Specialist at USAID's Office of Microenteprise Development. Jason Friedland works in Investment banking at Bear Stearns. He and his wife, Jackie, had their first child, Abraham Max Friedland, in August 2004. Eric Giordano is completing his Ph.D. on the contradictions between U.S. military doctrine and practice at the Fletcher School. Kristen Hicks gave birth to her second child, on September 20, 2002. She also has a son. Mehlika Hoodbhoy , starting in August 2003, will be the 2003-2004 Crowley Program Fellow in International Human Rights Law at Fordham Law School. She will be running a speaker series, doing her own research/writing, and, geopolitics permitting, taking a delegation of law students on a trip overseas in June 2004. Sameera Kapasi Mahendru is working in Houston on annexation and tax law and policy for the City.
