Wastewater Treatment
The Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (SRWTP), owned by the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD), employs reliable treatment processes that mirror nature's handling of wastewater, with an important advantage: what nature might take months to complete, we finish in about eight hours.
This section covers the many facets of wastewater treatment, including the process itself, the recycling of water , the handling of biosolids, our Wastewater Source Control Section, and the facility that processes wastewater for the Sacramento region, the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (SRWTP).
Finally, this section includes a Frequently Asked Questions page with answers and updates about our Water Recycling Program.

The Clearstream Wastewater Treatment System is a highly efficient "extended aeration" sewage treatment plant. This system, through aeration and clarification, provides a proper environment for aerobic bacteria and other micro-organisms that convert the incoming sewage into clear, odorless, and organically stable water. Test results taken from actual in-service applications of Clearstream Systems average consistently below the United States Environmental Protection Agency requirements for direct discharge of treated effluent.
