Innovative Workforce Solutions to Help Transportation Industry Address Hiring, Training, and Retention Challenges
Other Transportation Industry Information In October 2005, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced initial investments to address the workforce needs of the transportation industry. These investments result from forums which the U.S. Department of Labor hosted in 2005 with transportation industry leaders, educators, and the public workforce system to identify the industry’s hiring, training, and retention challenges. DOL has sought to understand and implement industry-identified strategies to confront critical workforce challenges. It has listened to employers, industry associations, community colleges, and others associated with the transportation industry regarding their efforts to identify challenges and implement effective workforce strategies. However, the challenges they face are far too complex for one institution or industry sector to solve alone. DOL’s Employment and Training Administration is supporting comprehensive partnerships that include employers, labor-management organizations, the public workforce system, and other entities that have developed innovative approaches that address the workforce needs of business while also effectively helping workers find good jobs with good wages and promising career pathways in the transportation industry.

ATTENTION BSA DRIVERS:
DON'T ENTER THE RISK ZONE
BE AWARE OF KILLER FATIGUE.
It is essential that adequate, safe, and responsible transportation be used for all Scouting activities. Because most accidents occur within a short distance from home, safety precautions are necessary, even on short trips. General guidelines are as follows:
  • Seat belts are required for all occupants. All drivers must have a valid driver's license that has not been suspended or revoked for any reason. If the vehicle to be used is designed to carry more than 15 persons, including the driver (more than 10 persons, including the driver, in California), the driver must have a commercial driver's license (CDL). An adult leader (at least 21 years of age) must be in charge and accompany the group. The driver must be currently licensed and at least 18 years of age. Youth member exception: When traveling to and from an area, regional, or national Boy Scout activity or any Venturing event under the leadership of an adult (at least 21 years of age) tour leader, a youth member at least 16 years of age may be a driver, subject to the following conditions:
  • Six months' driving experience as a licensed driver (time on a learner's permit or equivalent is not to be counted) No record of accidents or moving violations Parental permission granted to the leader, driver, and riders

    Local Standards: Transportation
Collection Financial Standards are intended for use in calculating repayment of delinquent taxes. These Transportation Standards are effective on October 1, 2007 for purposes of federal tax administration only. Expense information for use in bankruptcy calculations can be found on the website for the U.S. Trustee Program The transportation standards consist of nationwide figures for monthly loan or lease payments referred to as ownership costs, and additional amounts for monthly operating costs. The operating costs include maintenance, repairs, insurance, fuel, registrations, licenses, inspections, parking and tolls (These standard amounts do not include personal property taxes). The ownership costs provide maximum allowances for the lease or purchase of up to two automobiles, if allowed as a necessary expense. A single taxpayer is normally allowed one automobile.
