Network of excellence
The European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy, EDIT, is the collective answer of 27 leading European, North American and Russian institutions to a call of the European Commission, issued in 2004, for a network in « Taxonomy for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research ». This project has started on the 1rst of March 2006 and will last 5 years.
Taxonomy provides the basis for understanding biodiversity. Overcoming the taxonomic impediment involves both having enough trained taxonomists and having taxonomic information available to those who need it. The project objectives are to help to reduce the fragmentation in European taxonomic research and expertise and to coordinate the European contribution to the global taxonomic effort, in particular the Global Taxonomy Initiative, through an integrated initiative aimed at improving society’s capacity for biodiversity conservation.

Welcome to NEWT
NEWT is the taxonomy database maintained by the UniProt group. It integrates taxonomy data compiled in the NCBI database and data specific to the UniProt Knowledgebase. [ Taxonomy HELP ]. NEWT is updated daily. [ Reference citation Species with protein sequences stored in the UniProt Knowledgebase are named according to UniProt nomenclature [ Guide to organism denomination ]. We endeavour to maintain a list of manually curated species names for which protein sequence data is available. In particular, we have adopted a systematic convention for naming viral and bacterial strains and isolates. For each species, NEWT displays the following taxonomy data: UniProt scientific name, common name and synonym, lineage, number of UniProt Knowledgebase entries. Entries are displayed with the NiceProt interface on the ExPASy server. Links to external sites are chosen by the UniProt taxonomy team and show pictures and various scientific data of interest (taxonomy, biology, physiology,...). Due to the sheer volume of data present on the world-wide web, it is unfortunately not possible to contact each site individually. The complete list of current external sites that are linked to NEWT is available

Who is this guy, Benjamin Bloom, and why all the fuss
about his Taxonomy?
In 1956, Benjamin Bloom headed a group of educational psychologists. Together, they developed a classification of levels of thinking behaviors thought to be important in the processes of learning. The assumption:
abilities
can be measured along a
continuum
from
plain and simple to rather complex.
This became a taxonomy that included the three domains; cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. This article discusses the cognitive domain. The taxonomy also provides a useful structure in which to categorize test questions. Bloom found that over 95 % of the test questions students encounter require them to think only at the lowest possible level ... the recall of information. Verb examples that represent intellectual activity at each level are a useful place to start. main professional journey services Here are the six levels from the simple recall or recognition of facts,as the lowest level, through increasingly more complex and abstract mental levels, to the highest order which is classified as evaluation. The Instructor/Learning Coach can ask questions within particular levels.

Taxonomies, Categorization, Classification, Categories, and Directories for Searching
The terms taxonomy ontology directory cataloging categorization and classification are often confused and used interchangeably. These are all ways of organizing information (or things or animals) into categories. There are a number of applications that can help people create taxonomies and place information objects within their categories, although the amount of automation can vary. Some programs simply allow anyone to manually add a URL to a specific category by submitting a site. Others allow human catalogers to create sophisticated rules to specify certain words and phrases which will place a page in a category. Others accept a "training set" within an existing taxonomy, and will place documents in categories based on similarities. Still others attempt to automate the entire process, grouping pages into topics based on programmatic evaluation of the contents. When evaluating these applications, remember that they are simply software. No matter the elegance of the algorithms
