Msetimon - Multi SETI@home Monitor
A graphical package to monitor seti activity that may be running on multiple computers over a network or multiple instances on the same computer. It is the first program to monitor multiple PC's without having to cross mount file systems. It runs on Windows or Linux/Unix(new)
If you do not have multiple PCs Msetimon is great for Monitoring SETI@home activity for a single client while saving space on your desktop. You can see Msetimon screenshots here
Rather than slowing down your cpu with fancy displays. Msetimon displays only the necessary facts at a glance. This is especially helpful if you are monitoring multiple computers that may be running SETI@home. The main window will give you a quick look at the progress each of your systems are making. If you wish to see more information just left click on the desired PC name or directory and a detailed work unit screen will appear. A right click will show the position of that work unit in the SkyMap.

    SETI
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. The first practical proposals in SETI were made in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but were aimed only at interplanetary communication (see communication, with the Moon and planets ). The roots of SETI in its modern form, as a search for artificial signals over interstellar and even intergalactic distances, can be traced back to the 1930s with the discovery by Karl Jansky of radio waves coming from a source outside the Solar System. This led, in time, to the birth of radio astronomy and to the construction, in the late 1950s, of the first large radio telescopes such as those at Jodrell Bank and Green Bank . Only with such powerful instruments was it feasible to start looking for Earth-type signals from nearby stars.
    The dawn of SETI
As a serious scientific enterprise, SETI began in 1959 with two independent events. The first was the publication of a paper in which Cornell researchers Philip Morrison and Guiseppe Cocconi discussed the suitability of radio waves as a communication medium, man's newly-acquired ability to eavesdrop on interstellar radio conversations, and the optimum frequency at which to conduct a search (see

    An Anomalous SETI Signal
SETI League Explanation: No one knows for sure what caused this signal . There is a slight possibility that it just might originate from an extraterrestrial intelligence . The bright colors on the blue background indicate that an anomalous signal was received here on Earth by a radio telescope involved in a Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). A search for these signals is ongoing by several groups including volunteer members of the SETI League . Time labels the vertical axis of the above plot , and frequency marks the horizontal axis. Although this strong signal was never positively identified, astronomers have identified in it many attributes characteristic of a more mundane and ultimately terrestrial origin. In this case , a leading possibility is that the signal originates from an unusual modulation between a GPS satellite and an unidentified Earth-based source. Many

Materialistic ideology has subverted the study of biological and cosmological origins so that the actual content of these sciences has become corrupted. The problem, therefore, is not merely that science is being used illegitimately to promote a materialistic worldview, but that this worldview is actively undermining scientific inquiry, leading to incorrect and unsupported conclusions about biological and cosmological origins. At the same time, intelligent design (ID) offers a promising scientific alternative to materialistic theories of biological and cosmological evolution an alternative that is finding increasing theoretical and empirical support. Hence, ID needs to be vigorously developed as a scientific, intellectual, and cultural project. read more... Additional Descent New Twist in MicroRNA Biology . . . . . SETI@Home Service
The SETI@Home service is a Windows NT service that controls a SETI@Home command-line client. Since it is implemented as a service, it is only usable on systems running Windows NT or Windows 2000. The goal of the SETI@Home Service is to help maximize your system's SETI@Home work-unit output. It uses the command-line client, which elimiates processing cycles that would otherwise be lost to displaying graphics. As a further boost, even the client's text output is disabled. The client is run as a background process, so that it can continually work without impacting anything else you may want to do on your machine. But the main benefit to running the client as a service is that it runs the client as long as your machine is booted. You no longer need to leave yourself logged on to process work units. If your machine is rebooted while you are away from it for any reason (eg: power outage), the SETI@Home Service will resume processing immediately after your machine reboots. A third way the SETI@Home Service helps you is with network outages. If your network connection happens to be down when the SETI@Home client completes a unit, it will quite likely terminate. This can leave you without any SETI processing for an extended period of time until you come back to the machine and notice the client's window is gone. The SETI@Home Service automaticly detects termination of the SETI@Home client and restarts it. A fourth way the SETI@Home Service helps you is with its handy built-in web server, which can report client status to any connected PC via your web-browser.

Let's start with the acronym SETI it stands for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence . This search involves the use of large radio telescopes . Using these telescopes (which are essentially extremely large satellite dish antennas), scientists involved in SETI hope to detect radio signals "leaking" from other intelligent civilizations or that other civilizations have specifically beamed at us. The basic principles behind SETI rely on three assumed facts:
  • There must be other intelligent life forms out there. The Milky Way galaxy alone contains billions of stars like our own sun , and the universe contains billions of galaxies. If intelligent life can evolve in one place, then presumably it can evolve in many other places as well.
  • Any intelligent civilization would discover radio waves and begin leaking them into space. Humans, as an intelligent life form, discovered radio waves fairly early in our development, and we have been leaking radio signals in significant quantities for much of the 20th century. We leak signals in everything from AM and FM radio broadcasts to TV broadcasts to all sorts of satellite and radar broadcasts. Every time you open your garage door, you leak a radio signal into space!
