National Jewish Population Survey (NJPS) 1971, 1990, 2000-01
Since the U.S. Census does not identify Jews (or any other religious identity grouping) in its research, data from national surveys are needed to provide accurate information about the American Jewish community. The most well known studies of the American Jewish community have been the National Jewish Population Studies (NJPS) which were conducted in: and . We have archived a variety of different resources from the NJPS including data in SPSS format, study instruments and reports. Note that in addition to the Data Bank's NJPS 2000-2001 materials, UJC has its own NJPS pages
Survey of Heritage and Religious Identification (HARI) 2001-02
The Survey of Heritage and Religious Identification provides an estimate of the Jewish population of the United States and addresses methodological issues in the study of Jewish communities. It was conducted from 2001 through 2002 by Drs. Gary Tobin and Sid Groeneman. The data file, the questionnaire, and the report: Surveying the Jewish Population in the United States are all now available via the Data Bank website.
American Jewish Identity Survey (AJIS) 2000-01
The American Jewish Identity Survey was originally published in 2001 with the research conducted by Egon Mayer, Barry A. Kosmin and Ariela Keysar. The study was reissued in 2003 by the Center for Cultural Judaism.

The program in Population Studies prepares undergraduate students for careers requiring demographic skills or for entering graduate programs in related areas. The program is not a major in itself. It requires 15 semester hours of coursework, some of which may satisfy other University and major requirements. Applications of demographic analysis to the problems of human ecology are illustrated in the preparation of population estimates and forecasts, family planning, aging, migration, marriage and family structure, labor markets, gender and environmental impact analysis, as well as the academic study of communities. Successful completion of the program leads to a Certificate in Population Studies attesting to a special competence in the application of demographic skills in solving problems in population-environment relations. The certificate requirements cover introductory work in population, culture and society, and population and human ecology; then, preparation in demographic methods leads to a choice of coursework offered by members of the participating faculty listed above. Work on the certificate concludes with a seminar in the senior year. The Population Methods Course (SOC 363) satisfies the analytic reasoning requirement (R2) in the General Education program. Students enrolling in this course are expected to have a score of 20 on the Mathematics Placement Test (or its equivalent). In the course of their studies, students are urged to gain familiarity with a computing package such as EXCEL, QUARTRO PRO or STATA, any of which may be used in their coursework.

Population
The phrase "population statistics" as used by the Census Bureau refers to much more than simply the "number of inhabitants" in an area. The Census Bureau provides census count and current estimates of the number of inhabitants of the Nation, regions, States, cities, counties, and other areas. It also furnishes a wide variety of information on social and economic characteristics of the population, such as household composition, ethnicity, and income and in-depth reports are prepared on important social, economic, and demographic issues. Center Overview Center Director: Dr. Isaac Eberstein
A consulting division of the CDPH, the Healthy Communities Program , has been established to provide academically sound and directly relevant research to public and private decision makers in Florida. The consulting service plays an active role in preparing students for professional careers.
Facilities
The CDPH features a Local Area Network file server dedicated to research use by Center-affiliated faculty and graduate students. The server provides both password-secured and public-access storage, both of which can be accessed from faculty offices, student carrels, and the Center’s computer lab. CDPH maintains the College’s network license for Stata software. The Center also maintains both general-purpose (e.g., SAS, SPSS) and more specialized (e.g., aML, LIMDEP) statistical software packages, which are provided to Center Associates and graduate students upon request. The Center maintains a small research library. In addition, Center members have access to the College data laboratory which has includes extensive holdings, including the U.S. Census files and United Nations Demographic Yearbooks historical sequence, and the university is a full participant in ICPSR.

First Population Study Of Genetically Modified Mosquitoes Highlights Difficulties Facing Malaria Control Technique
ScienceDaily (Feb. 21, 2003) See also: Scientists from Imperial College London report in Science today that populations including genetically modified mosquitoes quickly lose their test marker gene when they are bred with unmodified mosquitoes. The scientists say their results have several lessons for further work on developing GM mosquitoes, and they suggest a number of ways around the problems they have observed. With no immediate prospects of a vaccine against the disease that affects more than 300 million people every year, novel strategies to tackle malaria are keenly sought. One strategy is to release a strain of mosquito into the wild that has been genetically engineered so it cannot transmit the malarial parasite. Since the first GM mosquito was created three years ago at Imperial, scientists considering this approach have been examining the evidence from carefully-contained laboratory tests of how transgenic mosquitoes fare when mixed with populations of unmodified mosquitoes. This study, which was funded by the Wellcome Trust, indicates that while the act of modifying mosquitoes does not have a major effect on their ability to survive, when the modified insects are placed in a natural population they have relatively low competitiveness.
