This site is a central link to Polymer Research and Education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. This campus has long been known for its excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering. The Polymer Science and Engineering Department (PSE) at UMass Amherst is a premier Graduate Education and Research program and has achieved international recognition. The campus also has two national Centers dedicated to polymers. The Center for UMass/Industry Research on Polymers (CUMIRP) is the campus link to Industry and Government Agencies for collaborative polymer programs. The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), sponsored by the National Science Foundation, coordinates research for interdisciplinary, fundamental polymer research. Read below for more information and links to these centers.

Polymer Science And Engineering Department

Combining nearly 200 scientists and students with $20 million in instrumentation, the PSE department has become one of the largest and most well-known academic center for polymer research in the world. The department topped the U.S. News and World Report survey for Graduate Polymer programs across the nation. Over 350 Ph.D.'s have been awarded in the department's 30+ year history.
Center for UMass / Industry Research on Polymers

The oldest National Science Foundation established Industry / University Cooperative Research Center (NSF-I/UCRC), since 1980, has evolved into a dynamic Center program. CUMIRP's mission is to act as a crossroads where the University Research and Education meet with Industrial and Government partners in polymer science and engineering at UMass.

Conductive Polymers
We have been taught that plastics, unlike metals, do not conduct electricity. Plastic is used as insulation around the copper wires in ordinary electrical cables. Yet, the 2000 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry: Alan Heeger, Alan G. MacDiarmid and Hideki Shirakawa, were rewarded for their revolutionary discovery that plastic can, after certain modifications, be made electrically conductive. See also:

Propulsion Polymers is a small business, owned and operated by Marcus Leech in his spare time. Marcus has a "day job" with a large telecommunications equipment vendor, as a systems and network security architect. Propulsion Polymers systems integration facility and "vehicle assembly building" is located on Marcus' 35-acre farm near Smiths Falls , Ontario, Canada. Propulsion Polymers is a manufacturer of small hybrid rocket motors, and related support equipment, for the hobby rocketry community. Our products currently include a 38mm hybrid motor system, with other systems in the works. We are committed to providing high-quality propulsion systems that are economical to purchase and operate. We believe that with our technology, we can bring high-power rocketry to even the most budget-concious flyers. Propulsion polymers produces motors in 22mm, 38mm, 54mm, and 100mm diameters, covering total impulse ranges from 10NS to 15,000NS (NAR designation C to N). All of our motors use Urbanski-Colburn valving (U/C valving), with a non-pyrotechnic, gaseous oxidizer, start sequence. We don't sell directly, our products are available through our
