Recent Additions and Updates The I-170 Pennsylvanian Exposure in St. Louis, Missouri This link takes you to a discussion by Dr. Norman R. King, Professor of Geology at the University of Southern Indiana, about the rocks exposed at the I-170 highway cut. Dr. King describes the rock units and correlates them with rock units elsewhere in the Midcontinent region. He interprets their environments of deposition, and also places them in the context of larger-scale geological processes taking place in the Midcontinent region and around the globe during the Pennsylvanian Period.

Since its inception in the late 1940s, the aim of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology has been to present a comprehensive and authoritative yet compact statement of knowledge concerning groups of invertebrate fossils. Professor Raymond C. Moore, the project's founder, envisaged the Treatise as ultimately comprising three hefty volumes with a total of some 3,000 pages. The Treatise , expanding in fifty years beyond Moore's wildest dream, now comprises 47 volumes and involves the work of more than 300 authors worldwide with another dozen or so volumes in various stages of preparation.
In the near future the Treatise will be online in the form of a searchable database allowing authors to cooperatively share in the production of Treatise volumes.
R.C. Moore, founder of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology , stands beside some of the initial volumes of the series at left. Assistant editor Jill Hardesty (1995-present) stands beside the current stack of Treatise volumes at right).

FACILITIES The Shuler Museum of Paleontology maintains research and teaching collections in microfossils, fossil invertebrates, fossil plants, and recent and fossil vertebrates. Active areas of current research involve Mesozoic and Cenozoic vertebrates and plant macrofossils, and palynology. Vertebrate collections in the Shuler Museum of Paleontology have special strengths in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic of Texas, Mesozoic of Southwestern U.S., and representative and research collections from active projects outside the U.S., including Kenya, Malawi, Cameroon, Pakistan, Mexico, and Yemen. The collections and personnel from the Shuler Museum are actively used and involved in outreach programs through area public museums. One such project is the development of a traveling exhibit with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History entitled Lone Star Dinosaurs
Facilities of the Shuler Museum of Paleontology include laboratories for fossil preparation, molding and casting, pollen extraction and anlysis, and morphometric analysis. Some journals have additional sites via their publishers from which full-text articles can frequently be accessed; these links are also provided. A list of journals that publish papers but either do not have web sites or have sites but do provide (free) web access to tables of contents or articles may be accessed here . This is not intended as a disrespect for any language, but as a means to direct traffic to the web sites for those publications. Please note that I have not included journals that only very rarely publish vertebrate paleontology papers (such as American Naturalist and many medical journals).

The Department's mission is to collect, research, and care for the fossilized remains of past life and to promote the professional and public understanding of extinct and modern life on Earth. Science Museum paleontologists take an interdisciplinary approach to their research programs by integrating information from fossil and living organisms to extract answers to questions of broad evolutionary significance. Staff conduct original research, collect new data through field and lab-based explorations, preserve fossils through curation of our collection, and bring paleontology to the public through exhibits and educational programming.

Fort Peck, Montana 59223 George Stanley-Director In April of 2004, FPPI delivered it's first Peck's Rex skeleton ever assembled to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore. This exhibit was very special from a variety of aspects. It was put in their new dinosaur hall, a large area that overlooks the bay. It was the first Tyrannosaurus rex mounted with a gastralia basket anywhere in the world. It was also a very special mount and pose. Now, the new dinosaur hall is complete. If you are in the area, stop and see what a great job the folks at the MSC did with their new space and exhibit.
