Kinetic study of monophenol and o diphenol binding to oxy tyrosinase
Journal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic Volume 32, Issues 5-6 1 March 2005 Pages 185-192
Abstract
The complex reaction mechanism of tyrosinase involves three enzymatic forms, two overlapping catalytic cycles and a dead-end complex. The deoxy tyrosinase form binds oxygen with a high degree of affinity, met tyrosinase and oxy tyrosinase forms bind monophenols and o -diphenols, although the former is inactive on monophenols. Analytical expressions for the catalytic and Michaelis constants of tyrosinase towards phenols and o -diphenols have been derived. Thus, the Michaelis constant of tyrosinase towards monophenols

Wild Mushrooms: The 36th Annual Fungus Fair

Natural Sciences Special Gallery
Presented by the Natural Sciences Department
And by the Mycological Society of San Francisco View hundreds of specimens of freshly gathered mushrooms. Explore the beauty, smells, tastes and intricacies of the world of mushrooms in exhibits, lectures, slide shows, cooking demonstrations and family activities accompanying the exhibition. Hear experts from the world of mushroom biology and collecting. Renowned mushroom biologists and authors, Paul Stamets and David Arora will speak both days, along with basic beginning mushroom slide presentations by MSSF experts. Fresh wild mushrooms will be displayed in settings that assist in their identification and mimic their natural habitats with mushroom experts on hand to explain their traits. Visitors will see choice edibles and examine deadly mushrooms. Lectures and slide shows will include presentations on mushroom cultivation, mushroom hunting and identification, edible mushrooms, the use of mushrooms in textile dyeing, toxicology and psychoactive fungi.

The fungi shown on these pages may be found in the forests of central and coastal North Carolina. The photos and collections were made during the fall of 1995 as part of a class assignment for Introductory Mycology (Bot 220, taught by R. Vilgalys) at Duke University. Students were required to prepare a collection of 50 specimens representing a cross section of mushroom diversity from North Carolina, with notes and photos. The best student photos were selected for this homepage. Many of the specimens shown on these photos were collected during field trips to several interesting habitats in North Carolina, including the piedmont, sandhills, and coastal forest regions.
