Abstract
The OpenLabs coding system is an established, comprehensive, dynamic, flexible, open, multilingual European system which is tailored to meet the electronic data interchange (EDI) needs of medical laboratory users. The OpenLabs coding system, having many specific, independent classes and considerable flexibility, serves two different objectives: (i) unambigous coding of entities present in messages used for EDI in clinical pathology; and (ii) interfacing with other nomenclatures and coding schemes to map concepts between different systems.

LABORATORY IN ELECTROCHEMISTRY Analytical Chemistry: Finding More and More About Less and Less George Atkinson The laboratory in Electrochemistry is offered to third-year undergraduate and graduate students of the Chemistry department. It is located in room 108 of the Orenstein Chemistry building. The laboratory course consists of experiments in physical and analytical electrochemistry. The laboratory course is preceded by a lecture course of Electrochemistry , in which the students learn the theory of physical electrochemistry and of advanced electroanalytical methods. Course No. 0351-3815 Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry Course No. 0351-3817 Laboratory in Electrochemistry The experiments in the laboratory include two parts: Experiments in Electroanalytical Chemistry - the basic techniques of the instrumental electroanalysis; Methods in Advanced Electrochemistry. The Laboratory Manual , presented in this Web page, includes Experiments in Electroanalytical Chemistry, which have been selected to demonstrate the principles of the instrumental methods and to provide the students with a basis for the further application of these methods to different types of chemical problems. The experiments in Advanced Electrochemistry are taken from the book of E. Gileadi, E. Kirowa-Eisner and J. Penciner “

    http://www.stolaf.edu/people/walters/narrative/roleplaypkal.html
Analytical Chemistry Laboratory: ROLE-PLAYING AS A PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH St. Olaf College Northfield, Minnesota This report was prepared as part of the PKAL Dreyfus Chemistry Writing Project: Capstone Courses At St. Olaf College, such a dilemma awaits Chemistry students in the Chemistry 255/256 Analytical Chemistry courses originally developed between 1985 and 1999 by Professor John Walters. In this class students assume roles ( Manager, Hardware, Software , or Chemist ) in a "company" and then play out those roles in pursuit of a solution of a management dilemma. In this course at the junior level, students learn chemical methods of analysis; learning instrumental methods of analysis is the focus of the senior-level course. The "role-playing" Analytical Chemistry lab approach emphasizes interdependence and small-group learning As former student Maren Bunge noted: "What really struck me was the cooperation and noncompetitiveness of the class, as well as the willingness of students to work hard together on the problems." The process of dividing responsibilities at the onset is as much a part of the integration as is bringing it all together at the end. "One of the advantages of role playing in the Chemistry laboratory is to allow the development of technical expertise at an individual level while at the same time stressing and developing communication and collaborative skills," Professor Walters notes. "It is particularly effective for teaching undergraduate Analytical Chemistry because much Analytical work naturally thrives in an interdependent, diverse small group." Likewise the role of the instructor changes - as it becomes imperative that the instructor plays along and becomes the kind of active listener who can help people realize and experience the consequences of what they say in the role they are playing.

    Laboratory for Analytical Chemistry
The Laboratory for Analytical Chemistry, director Prof. Dr. Linda Thienpont, is part of the " Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis " (FW02V) at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Ghent (UGent), Harelbekestraat 72, B-9000 Gent Belgium The research activities of the laboratory director and her staff are related to standardization/evaluation of analytical methods used in laboratory medicine. These activities consist in first instance in the development/validation of reference methods based on ion chromatography, isotope dilution-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (ID-GC/MS) and electrospray liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (ESI-LC/MS). In second instance, they consist in application of the reference methods for evaluation of the trueness (traceability) and/or for calibration of hierarchically lower analytical methods. The laboratory also develops certified native serum reference panels for use by industry, EN 45001 accredited laboratories and external quality assessment organizers in demonstration/assessment of the traceability of measurement results with in-vitro diagnostic medical devices.
