The quarterly Fishery Bulletin (FB) is the oldest and one of the finest fisheries journals in the world. It has been an official publication of the U.S. Government since 1881, under various titles, and is the U.S. counterpart to other highly regarded governmental fisheries science publications. It publishes original research or interpretative articles in all scientific fields that bear on marine fisheries and marine mammal science. Manuscripts submitted for publication in the Fishery Bulletin and Technical Reports undergo peer review by senior scientists within and outside the government. The NMFS Scientific Editor, a scientist affiliated with one of the NMFS Science Centers who serves for a three-year period, is responsible for conducting the peer reviews and for accepting or rejecting manuscripts. Downtown Fisheries?
Advances may make fish farming a healthy prospect, even for inner cities
Janet Raloff An economic renaissance is apparent in much of Baltimore, including the cobblestoned, 225-year-old Fells Point neighborhood that hugs a northern edge of the city's Inner Harbor. Some 18th-century storefronts display antiques, others feature homemade ethic cuisine. Construction on towering new hotels booms overhead. This female striped bass is being injected with a pellet that will slowly release a hormone. Such injections overcome a problem that had kept many species from reproducing in captivity.
©John Consoli/COMB Inside a nondescript, greenish-beige waterfront warehouse, marine biologists are laboring over their own contribution to this area's economic revitalization. The ambitious goal of these researchers at the University of Maryland's Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB) is to redesign aquaculture, bringing teeming tanks of seafood to urban centers. Though they're starting with Baltimore, the next site could be Detroit, Iowa City, or even Phoenix. At the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, researchers are spearheading similar efforts to move aquaculture to nontraditional venues—in this case, depressed farm towns.

Description
The Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NCFS), situated at 70 degrees north and close to The Barents Sea, has a particular responsibility for the development of fundamental and scientific expertise within all areas of fisheries and aquaculture research in Norway. NCFS is also responsible for educating candidates for employment in the fishing industry and fisheries management. The College offers a number of BSc, MSc, and PhD programmes. All the teaching in "International Fisheries Management", a two-year master programme, is done in English.
Department of Aquatic BioSciences (IAB)
Due to the close vicinity to the Arctic and the vast fish resources of the Barents Sea, most of our research is focused on ecological aspects of Northern and Arctic species and communities. The studies at the department comprise biodiversity and most ecological aspects of phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish, benthos and physiology. Most of our courses are organized to also service foreign students, i.e. English spoken.
