Providing a helpful balance between theory and application, it presents the FEM as a tool to find approximate solutions of differential equations, making it a useful resource for students from a variety of disciplines. Using a unique combination of live Mathematica and MATLAB implementations, along with problems in both ANSYS and ABAQUS formats, this hands-on book reveals the logic behind the equations to facilitate a full understanding of methods and solutions. In nine convenient chapters, Fundamental Finite Element Analysis and Applications: with Mathematica and MATLAB Computations covers:
  • Finite Element Method: The Big Picture
  • Mathematical Foundation of the Finite Element Method
  • One-Dimensional Boundary Value Problems
  • Trusses, Beams, and Frames

    Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
    DEFINITION
    Finite Element Analysis
is a sophisticated technique used by engineers to estimate the responses of structures and materials to environmental factors such as fluid flow forces heat and vibration
    SITUATION

With complex mechanical devices, it is only possible to model them by breaking them down into small, "finite" elements, and to analyze each element individually.
    OBJECTIVES
Finite Element Analysis is an analysis technique use in design and improvement of components.

    Abstract
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone microarchitecture. It leads to increased bone fragility and risk of fracture, particularly of the hip, spine and wrist. According to the WHO, lifetime risk for osteoporotic fractures in women is close to 40%, in men about 13%. Osteoporosis is second only to cardiovascular disease as a leading health care problem. Osteoporotic fractures are a major cause of severe long-term pain and physical disability, and have an enormous impact on individual, society and health care systems. Ideally, the development of a system with microstructural resolution below 50 micron would allow in-vivo measurement of patients at different instances in time and at different anatomical sites. Unfortunately, such systems are not yet available, but the resolution at peripheral sites in now below 100 micron, a level that allows elucidation of individual microstructural bone elements. The goal of the proposed research is two-fold.
