    The Problem
Foreign Oil: America's 20-million-barrel-a-day oil habit costs our economy $1.4 billion a day, and $500 billion in 2006 alone. Every single hour, we spend $41 million on foreign oil. Climate Change: As a result of climate change, glaciers are melting faster; the polar ice caps are shrinking; trees are blooming earlier; more people are dying in heat waves; species are migrating, and eventually many will become extinct.
    Barack Obama's Plan
Reduce Carbon Emissions 80 Percent by 2050
    • Cap and Trade: Obama supports implementation of a market-based cap-and-trade system to reduce carbon emissions by the amount scientists say is necessary: 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. Obama's cap-and-trade system will require all pollution credits to be auctioned. A 100 percent auction ensures that all polluters pay for every ton of emissions they release, rather than giving these emission rights away to coal and oil companies. Some of the revenue generated by auctioning allowances will be used to support the development of clean energy, to invest in energy efficiency improvements, and to address transition costs, including helping American workers affected by this economic transition.

Forms of Energy You have heard of the word "energy" all your life.. You need to eat vegetables to grow strong and have "energy". You need to go to bed early so you will have "energy" in the morning to go to school. Energy is the ability to do work. Energy is everywhere in nature-sunlight, wind, water, plants, and animals. We use energy everyday. Two kinds of energy are kinetic and potential. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. Potential energy is stored energy. A good example of kinetic and potential energy is a frog leaping. A frog sitting on a lily pad is an example of potential energy. The frog leaping is an example of kinetic energy. Different forms of energy are
  • light
  • chemical
  • mechanical
  • heat
  • electric
  • atomic
  • sound
All these forms of energy can be broken down either into kinetic or potential. Law of Conservation of Energy- Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Energy is always changing from one kind to another. The total energy of an object never changes. Potential energy + Kinetic energy = Total energy and Total energy - Kinetic energy = Potential energy and Total energy - Potential energy = Kinetic energy All three equations are the same.

Consider this a call to action, for Congress, the energy industry, and the public. I am calling for a New American Revolution an energy and climate revolution.
Cut Oil Demand: 50% by 2020
That means reducing oil imports from around 65% to 10-15%. We can do this in part by getting the 100 mile per gallon (mpg) car into the marketplace. We must work to double the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, or CAFE, to 50 mpg by 2020. And we will set a life-cycle low-carbon fuel standard that reduces the carbon impact of our liquid fuels by 30% by 2020.
Create New Efficiencies And Energy Sources in the Electrical Sector: 50% by 2040
I am calling for a national renewable portfolio standard of 30% by 2020 that will rise to 50% by 2040. This is aggressive, but necessary as we start using more electricity for automobiles. I will push for an energy productivity law requiring a 20% improvement in energy productivity by 2020. We could save customers $21 billion a year by 2020.

Energy
The development of modern civilization has been dependent on both the availability and the advancement of energy. We have witnessed a progression from animal and steam power, to the internal combustion engine and electricity generation and to the harnessing of alternative sources of energy. Because of our reliance on energy sources, it is also important to understand the impacts of energy use on the environment. All aspects of energy – the way it is produced, distributed, and consumed – can affect local, regional, and global environments through land use and degradation, air pollution, the acidification of water and soils, and through global climate change via greenhouse gas emissions. The majority of our current energy stems from fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Coal dominates in our production of electricity, while oil is the world's primary transportation fuel. Natural gas use, which is most commonly as heating fuel, is currently growing faster than other fossil fuels. While cleaner and less carbon intensive than both coal and oil, its use still emits significant amounts of carbon dioxide. Over the foreseeable future, it is very likely that fossil fuels will remain our largest source of energy. However, fossil fuels are finite resources and there is concern not only about both domestic supply and U.S. reliance on foreign supplies, but also with the increasing cost of these fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is also the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions, which contributes to the

The water is said to possess kinetic energy since it is moving. It gets this energy because it is falling through a gravitational field.
http://id.mind.net/~zona/mstm/physics/mechanics/energy/energy.html
The Physics Department - Mechanics, Energy Energy is defined as the ability to do work. Work is defined as the transfer of energy. The above picture shows water rushing downstream during a flood. The water is said to possess kinetic energy since it is moving. It gets this energy because it is falling through a gravitational field. As it falls, energy in the gravitational field comes out of storage and is used to move the water. The water has energy, that is, kinetic energy, so, it has the ability to do work. Work on an object occurs when a force is applied to the object, and the object is displaced as a result of the action of this force. This causes energy to be transferred to the object. The water is doing work on the plants and the soil on the banks of the creek. It is pushing on the soil and forcing it downstream. The water is also pushing, and thus uprooting, some of the smaller trees and washing them downstream. So, energy in the gravitational field comes out of storage and is given to the water. This energy is realized as the kinetic energy of the water. Since the water has energy, it has the ability to do work. And the water is doing work. It is placing forces on the soil and the trees and washing them away. So, the soil and the trees are having work done on them, that is, they are having energy transferred to them. The energy transferred to them shows up as their kinetic energy. They have this kinetic energy since they end up moving as a result of work being done on them.
