09 December 2007 Scientists to use NHS scan on mummy of Nesperennub
Google It!

An Egyptian mummy nearly 3,000 years old is to be examined using the latest in NHS imaging technology. Nesperennub, a male body enclosed in a linen and plaster case within a 1.5m-long coffin, will have a whole-body computerised tomography (CT) scan at University College Hospital on Monday to see if it will yield any more of its secrets. Experts from the British Museum asked for Nesperennub to be scanned at UCH as the hospital uses the latest CT technology that allows individual images to be created at a thickness of 0.6mm. Two radiographers from the hospital will take about four hours over a series of detailed scans on behalf of experts from the museum's Department of Egyptology... The mummy first visited the trust in 2004 to have a CT but subsequent improvements in technology mean more could potentially be discovered. Why Cleo is both hit and myth
Manchester Evening News (Helen Tither)
Joyce Tyldesley talking about Cleopatra:
THE thick kohl eyeliner, the raven black hair, those sultry, seductive eyes - for most of us Elizabeth Taylor is the embodiment of Cleopatra. Oozing sex appeal in her legendary on-screen performance opposite real-life love Richard Burton, she caught the imagination of millions as she brought the tragic Egyptian queen to life.
So, in some ways, what a disappointment to discover the real-life Cleopatra may not have been such a gorgeous creature after all. In fact, the woman who seduced Julius Caesar and Mark Antony could have been more fearsome than fair.
"Everyone has this Elizabeth Taylor image in mind but the truth is we don't really know what she looked like," explains author Joyce Tyldesley, whose new book - Cleopatra: The Last Queen of Egypt - looks at the myths behind the real-life ruler.

The Wilbour Library of Egyptology has now been moved to an environmentally controlled space that provides custom shelving for the collections, improved work areas and a new reading room. The Wilbour collections are installed in a discrete area of the stacks separate from the other Library collections. This is the first phase of a plan to refurbish the area in which the Wilbour Library was previously stored and discussions are underway for the new Wilbour Library space that will offer a variety of strong resources on the study of Ancient Egypt.

    Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Why do you use HTML rather than PDF? Answer: It is a compromise between the effort involved and the result achieved. It is relatively straightforward for us to generate HTML code, including hot links between different parts of a page, a book or even a whole library. The volume of business that we anticipate does not justify the extra effort involved in generating PDF code of this complexity.
Some books are published as a series of page images rather than as fully searchable HTML. We do this where there are very many diacritical marks (accents), a large number of non-text items on each page, or a large amount of foreign (non-English language) text. More recently, we have been producing books in PDF format. It is much easier to print from these, but they contain many fewer links.
