Did you know the Tuatara once lived with Our Kiwi Dinosaurs long ago and is known as a living fossil, but more importantly the Tuatara is a living taonga from the days of creation for the people of Aotearoa.
Tuatara Update "They're... Back!"
The ancient and rare tuatara returned to its natural environment on mainland New Zealand for the first time in over 200 years, when 70 tuatara were released at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington on Thursday 8 December 2005. Getting up close and personal with Our living dinosaur Tuatahi the Tuatara. He's an adult Tuatara (Scientific name: Sphenodontidae) and is about 60 years old but they can live longer than 100 years. Tuatara's are the only living members of an ancient order of reptiles that have remained the same since dinosaurs were about. They eat mainly invertebrates but have been known to eat their own young as well as the eggs and chicks of the fairy prion - a bird whose burrows they often share. Originally Tuatara's were found throughout New Zealand but now only found on offshore Islands. It is considered a sacred creature by the Maori of New Zealand and can be found depicted in many traditional Maori carvings. Tuatara means 'old spiny back' in Maori.

The big sleep: How dinosaurs die
Why are dinosaurs so often found in the same position? Dead birds of prey may have provided the answer EXPERT GUIDE Instant Expert: Dinosaurs
Ever since the 1840s when Richard Owen - founder of London's Natural History Museum - created the term dinosaur, his "fearfully great lizards" have gripped people's imaginations like no other creature of the past. Dinosaurs have been the subject of countless studies, movies , books, exhibitions and toys. The discovery of the massive and enigmatic remains of Iguanadon Hylaeosaurus and Megalosaurus by British fossil hunters led Owen to realise they were onto something new and incredible. He distinguished dinosaurs from other reptiles, such as pterosaurs , mosasaurs, plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs , by their erect, two-legged, rather than a sprawling, crocodile-like gait. more Timeline FAQ Top Ten ... Millions of years ago, long before there were any people, there were dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were one of several kinds of prehistoric reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era, the "Age of Reptiles."
The dinosaurs dominated the Earth for over 165 million years, but mysteriously went extinct 65 million years ago. Paleontologists study their fossil remains to learn about the amazing prehistoric world of dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs were land-dwelling reptiles that walked with an erect stance. Their unique hip structure caused their legs to stick out from under their bodies, and not sprawl out from the side (like other reptiles ). When dinosaurs first evolved from more primitive archosaurs, they were bipedal (walked on two legs). Much later, some dinosaur groups returned to a four-legged stance, having hind legs much larger than their front legs
There were lots of different kinds of dinosaurs that lived at different times. Some were HUGE , some were small . Some walked on two legs , some walked on four . Some were speedy , and some were slow and lumbering

Welcome To the Greatest dinosaur site in world! Enter your search terms Web www.dinosaurfact.net Submit search form Practically every child in the world, at some point, has been enthused with dinosaurs. Actually, probably most adults are intrigued by the dinosaur facts that have shown up over the years, also. Dinosaurs were a great part of our world history, and even though we may never fully understand them, or why they are now extinct, the fact remains that walking with dinosaurs must have been an amazing feat, and we all, in some way, would like to know more about the mystery that is dinosaurs. Dinosaur facts have sprung up giving us some clue as to the life that these amazing creatures led and the tremendous size of some of them. Dinosaur pictures, although clearly recreated, have given us some insight to their size and shape, but it still seems that we know so little about what they were really like. Of course, we know a few facts about them from the many movies, television specials, and news broadcasts covering the latest dig for dinosaurs, but how much do we really know? We know that the most common Jurassic dinosaurs were the Camarasaurus. And we know that walking with dinosaurs is something that, if we are perfectly honest with ourselves, we have all dreamed about at some point.
The sad thing is, we may never fully know what walking with dinosaurs would be like. We can watch the movies and learning specials, but to have actually walked in their world is a feeling that seems out of reach. However, the more we learn about these amazing creatures, the more we can strive to place ourselves in their world. One day, it may be possible to get a feel of what living and walking with dinosaurs really was. Until then, we can still dream.

    Dinosaur
Dinosaurs are a group of now-extinct, terrestrial reptiles in the order Dinosauria. They lived during the Mesozoic Era, from about 225 million years ago to 66 million years ago. Species of dinosaurs ranged from chicken-sized creatures such as the 2-pound (1-kilogram) predator Compsognathus to colossal, herbivorous animals known as sauropods weighing more than 80 tons (72 metric tons). The sauropods were larger than any terrestrial animals that lived before or since.
    Biology of the dinosaurs
The dinosaurs shared some common physical characteristics, such as the presence of two openings on opposite sides of their skulls and 25 vertebrae. However, the dinosaurs also differed from each other in many important ways. They displayed an enormous range of forms and functions, and they filled a wide array of ecological niches. Some of the dinosaurs were, in fact, quite bizarre in their shape and, undoubtedly, their behavior. Most species of dinosaurs had a long tail and long neck, but this was not the case for all species. Most of the dinosaurs walked on their four legs, although some species were bipedal, using only their rear legs for locomotion. Their forelegs were greatly reduced in size and probably used only for grasping. The species that walked on four legs were all peaceful herbivores. In contrast, many of the bipedal dinosaurs were fast-running predators.

    Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Adventures
Millions of years ago, dinosaurs rumbled across the landscape of what is now Utah. Thousands of remnants of this prehistoric era are carefully preserved and interpreted in sites, museums and quarries across the state, awaiting your discovery.
    Dinosaur National Monument
The Quarry at Dinosaur National Monument is closed until further notice while repairs are made on the building structure. The quarry is the only place in the monument where the public can easily see dinosaur fossils embedded in rock.
    • The Quarry Visitor Center at Dinosaur National Monument, located 20 miles east of Vernal, near Jensen, offers Utah's most dramatic dinosaur display. It is a time capsule preserved in an ancient river sandbar. Here, the fossilized remains of over 2,000 bones have been exposed in a 200-foot-long wall, now enclosed as a permanent exhibit. Beyond the Quarry, Dinosaur National Monument offers trails, tours and activities which highlight the area's unique geology, history, wildlife and rugged beauty. The Split Mountain and Green River Campgrounds are located near the Quarry Visitor Center. Call 435-789-2115 for information.
Below is a sampling of other dinosaur-related attractions. Enjoy these prehistoric adventures, but remember that fossils and bones represent a priceless part of Utah's past. These remnants are protected by federal regulations and must be left undisturbed.
