Aller   : Navigation Rechercher La d©sertification est un ph©nom¨ne naturel ou non qui a pour origine des variations climatiques et/ou les cons©quences d'activit©s humaines. Ce mot d©crit une aridification locale, ou l'avanc©e du d©sert vers les terres auparavant non d©sertiques. L'aridification pr©c¨de souvent la d©sertification arides , semi-arides et subhumides s¨ches. Ce ph©nom¨ne repr©sente une des catastrophe naturelle   long terme. La d©sertification est amplifi©e par le r©chauffement de la plan¨te et par le surp¢turage (au Sahel notamment). La d©sertification telle que reconnue depuis un demi-si¨cle prend une ampleur croissante et jug©e assez inqui©tante pour que l'ONU au Sommet de la terre de RIO en Juin 1992 (Conf©rence des Nations Unies sur l'environnement et le d©veloppement (Cnued)) ait jug© utile de proposer une convention mondiale sur la lutte contre la d©sertification. Faute d'entente des ©lus sur son contenu, elle est devenue une d©claration d'intention. La d©sertification est un obstacle au d©veloppement de l'agriculture, et   l’©l©vation du niveau de vie des populations des zones concern©es.
