The successful cryopreservation of biomaterials requires the vitrification without ice-crystallization. Whether the solution of biomaterials crystallizes or vitrifies depends on the cooling rate, however, it is difficult to achieve the rate for the vitrification. Moreover, although cryoprotectants can help the vitrification, the addition of high-concentrations will destabilize the biomaterial. In this paper, the preparation of an effective cryoprotectant and the establishment of a suitable cryotechnology in a given condition were reviewed.
