These days, there's hardly a mission statement that doesn't herald it, or a CEO who doesn't laud it. And yet despite all of the attention that business creativity has won over the past few years, maddeningly little is known about day-to-day innovation in the workplace. Where do breakthrough ideas come from? What kind of work environment allows them to flourish? What can leaders do to sustain the stimulants to creativity and break through the barriers? Teresa Amabile has been grappling with those questions for nearly 30 years. Amabile, who heads the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at Harvard Business School and is the only tenured professor at a top B-school to devote her entire research program to the study of creativity, is one of the country's foremost explorers of business innovation.

I like to think of these creativity techniques as tools in a toolbox in much the same way as my toolbox at home for DIY. It has a saw, spanner, hammer, knife and all sorts of other things in it, they are all very useful, but you have to pick the right tool (creativity technique) for each job. We will try and provide a little guidance along with each tool to let you know whether it's best used for cutting paper or putting in nails. Creativity and Innovation
Businesses, whether for-profit and nonprofit, are facing change like never before. Numerous driving forces to this change included a rapidly expanding marketplace (globalization), and increasing competition, diversity among consumers, and availability to new forms of technology. Creativity and innovation are often key to the success of a business, particularly when strategizing during strategic planning, and when designing new products and services. Creative thinking and innovation are particularly useful during Strategic Planning (when strategizing) and in Product and Service Management (when designing new products and services.) Creative Thinking Innovation (innovation is applied creativity)

    1. Introduction
My interest in studying creativity was inspired by the frustrations that I felt as a student, then as a professor. I wanted to know how I could encourage creativity in myself, my students, and my colleagues.
Politicians, industrial managers, academic administrators, and other leaders often say that innovation is critical to the future of civilization, our country, their company, etc. But in practice, these same people often act as if innovation is an evil that must be suppressed, or at least tightly controlled.
The purposes of this essay are to (1) quickly examine some of the personality traits that are associated with unusual creativity and innovation and (2) to criticize management and educational techniques that penalize or discourage creativity. The way to increase the productivity of creative people is simple: give them resources (time, equipment, money) and stand out of their way!

    What is creativity?
Creativity is the bringing into being of something which did not exist before, either as a product, a process or a thought.
You would be demonstrating creativity if you:
    • Invent something which has never existed before
    • Invent something which exists elsewhere but you are not aware of
    • Invent a new process for doing something
    • Reapply an existing process or product into a new or different market
    • Develop a new way of looking at something (bringing a new idea into existence)
    • Change the way someone else looks at something
In fact, we are all creative every day because we are constantly changing the ideas which we hold about the world about us. Creativity does not have to be about developing something new to the world, it is more to do with developing something new to ourselves. When we change ourselves, the world changes with us

Business and organization training seminars and speakers utilizing the interactive tools and positive humor of Improv comedy to enhance creativity,
    http://www.creativity-engineering.com/
Learn to: Act Outside the Box! Creativity and Team Building
Focused on bottom-line results Our speakers, trainers, and team building programs quickly engage audiences to successfully "act" outside the box rather than merely think of outside it.
Our adaptation of the techniques of Improv (comedy and theater) is at the core of our approach. Within 15 minutes the audience is engaged in exercises that teach them to successfully overcome obstacles, playfully take creative risks, and break through the self-defeating barriers that so often hinder optimal performance. All this is accomplished within the context of positive humor providing nourishment for teams and organizations that is both invigorating and productive. Creativity Engineering's speakers and training seminars present a proactive, powerful approach to creativity training, team building and corporate communication that is compelling while focusing on bottom line results. This compelling technology enables teams, organizations, and businesses to dramatically increase their creative and collaborative abilities within a context that is facilitated by learning while laughing.
