A. A. Milne One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.
Abraham Maslow
The key question isn’t "What fosters creativity?" But it is why in God’s name isn’t everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.

TRUE Creativity and Innovation consists of
SEEING
what everyone else has seen,
THINKING
what no one else has thought, and
DOING
what no one else has dared!"

START WITH THE CUSTOMER OR END USER:

The customer is always your first and most important creative challenge. Listen! Try to see the customers problems and needs from his point of view. Restate the problem and the customers needs in his terms and iterate until a consensus is reached. Ask not only what his problems are, but what special methods or tools he is presently using to solve them. Work together with or in the place of the end user or customer. Use fictitious product descriptions to stimulate ideas and discussion. Remember that effective market research and sales strategy requires just as much creativity, enthusiasm and perfection as does product development. IMPORTANCE OF ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND
MAKING A PROPER PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The problem as first stated is rarely the true problem. Ask at least five times. Always restate the problem as many ways as you can; change the wording, take different viewpoints, try it in graphical form.

How Is Your Climate for Innovation? By Charles W. Prather, Ph.D. Think back over your career to the work situation that provided the most satisfying working environment for you (hopefully it is your current job). Now, contrast that one to the opposite - the one that provided the least satisfying working environment. You are probably instantly able to see that your personal enthusiasm and the level of your innovativeness paralleled the work environment. What dimensions of the environment do you think were most important? If you wanted to improve the environment for innovation, what specifically would you do? Leaders struggle with these questions. In our work with organizations, we find that the climate for innovation is crucial, poorly understood,  and all but ignored when thoughts turn to improving the level of innovation.  When leaders wish to improve the climate, many times they will just shotgun it - doing something that is poorly thought out, or doing something that makes the situation worse.  There is a better way - first understand the system and get the data, then decide what to do. Based on the pioneering work of Goran Ekvall in Sweden some 20 years ago, it is now possible to quantify the climate for innovation.  Ekvall's work has been further refined and validated by Scott Isaksen and others at the Center for Creative studies at SUNY-Buffalo, who have defined nine dimensions of the climate for innovation.  These nine dimensions are:

What is Creativity?
By Linda Naiman I define creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don't act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.

How To Be Creative:
[NB: PDF Version here.]
So you want to be more creative, in art, in business, whatever. Here are some tips that have worked for me over the years:
1. Ignore everybody. 2. The idea doesn't have to be big. It just has to change the world. 3. Put the hours in. 4. If your biz plan depends on you suddenly being "discovered" by some big shot, your plan will probably fail. 5. You are responsible for your own experience. 6. Everyone is born creative; everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten. 7. Keep your day job. 8. Companies that squelch creativity can no longer compete with companies that champion creativity. 9. Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb. 10. The more talented somebody is, the less they need the props. 11. Don't try to stand out from the crowd; avoid crowds altogether. 12. If you accept the pain, it cannot hurt you. 13. Never compare your inside with somebody else's outside. 14. Dying young is overrated.

V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media's founder narrated this two minute presentation of Creativity Cafe Concepts against a backdrop of the slides from his 1995 educators panel presentation at the prestigious SIGGRAPH International convention. The video describes how by a simple shift in approach and attitude, communities can harness the power of their creative people for local and global benefit.
People can make a very big difference very fast in the quality of life globally and in many other ways for personal benefit and for local and global neighborhood via pronoia. Perhaps Al Gore's film will get the leaders to catch-on how to cease and desist from NOT FIGURING HOW TO SHARE WITHOUT WAR AND GREED. Creativity Cafes is being designed to facilitate this.

About this Talk
Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. With ample anecdotes and witty asides, Robinson points out the many ways our schools fail to recognize much less cultivate the talents of many brilliant people. "We are educating people out of their creativity," Robinson says. The universality of his message is evidenced by its rampant popularity online. A typical review: "If you have
